Ya. SMP requires 64 bit = VT for Intel Processors.

Um, ok....yes I'm new to the Intel overclocking world, but I think you have VT mixed up with EM64T. VT = Virtualization Technology, EM64T = the Intel 64 extension architecture, correct? Since the E4300 doesn't have VT, I would think that means I can't run VMWare. At least from what I understand. But the E4300 is indeed a 64 bit capable processor and capable of running SMP. I believe we already have some OCN members which are running SMP on an E4300 (example: Trippenout).

Vanderpool Technology = VT. VMware server runs fine without it. It's just not as fast.

Ok, I see. I just knew it from my own processor. If you can run it, then good!

Ah, I see. Thanks Franken.

This shouldn't affect me since I'm going to run SMP on a native Linux setup. Right?

VT is only engaged with VMware server or Microsoft Virtual Server

Thanks again Franken, you are a gentleman and a scholar!

I was freaked out there for a minute. I thought I was going to have to Ebay or RMA the E4300 and buy a SMP capable C2D.

Sorry for the scare!

I guess I should be able to disable VT now that I run native linux. But if it works...

I'm shutting down folding for a day or two. I just got my new motherboard so I'm going to get it set up. Once I got a stable OC, I'll fire up the SMP client.

I'd leave the Opty folding, but ATM I only have one video card. I ordered a 8800GTS to go in the gaming/HTPC rig, but shipping is taking forever.

No worries mate... I've been shutting down the client all the time... unfortunately my video editing hobby needs alot of horsepower, and it's not possible to run F@H at the same time.

I desperately need more RAM tho. and a Q6600 wouldn't hurt... if my upcoming job interviews go well, I might splurge.
