Team Zang! (Team disbanded) - Page 49

Well, seeing as our thread has been pretty dead, I guess I'll go ahead and tell you about my day of speaker shopping.

I've decided to put the money that I was going to put towards new PC parts (Ram and Quad Core) towards some new speakers. Selfish, I know, but I suspect I'll get a lot of enjoyment about my upcoming upgrade.

Armed with 1500 dollars, I went and tried:

http://www.monitoraudiousa.com/produ...ge=2&product=4

and

http://www.dynaudio.de/eng/systems/l...460db716411b6#

Unfortunately, because of my musical tastes, the latter just doesn't have enough bass weight to handle it. However, it was the better speaker IMO. What now?

Next monday I'll pop in to the local dealer and give them a try.

Nice speakers. I wonder what happened to electro-stat and planar speakers? They don't seem to be all the rage anymore.

Well looks like I finally got the system stable. Installing the Noctua NC-U6 on the northbridge really helped. However, I wasn't able to push this thing any further than 3.05ghz. Seems to be the CPU that's holding it up. With more vcore than I'm comfortable with I could push it a little higher, but I decided to settle with 3ghz. Right now it's cranking out 1760 points every 22 hours, which is almost twice as good as what I had with the Opty setup.

I've been having personal problems + school so I haven't been able to fold. I'm gonna be better later this month and/or in may

Sorry guys
I see you're doing EXTREMELY well: nice job

I've been doing other things with my PC which hasn't let me do any folding: however, I've started it back up yesterday and should be good for a little while... I really need Quad Core and 2GB of RAM if I want to do both at the same time...

I'll probably wait until Q3, even though I have the cash for it now (I really want to buy those Hi-Fi speakers I posted above.)

So there you go, I have one WU that's going strong, 80% complete.... I've recently fallen off the map but should pick it up again soon.

Jimmy

I hate to do this, but I'm officially giving up on folding... for the time being... I lost a couple of work units with the WinSMP client recently, and more importantly, have been doing other CPU intensive stuff with my PC, which allows for very little folding time.

I'm going to hold out until V6, and don't plan to fold very much (on and off) until then.

I therefore give the team 2 choices:

I stay on: Might yield 5000~10000 points per month

I fold solo, and you guys find a new team member....

From experience, you'll have a hard time finding a decent replacement, and I'd like to continue with Zang! However, at the momment, it's not working for me, and those dreams of quad-core and ram are gone, as I'm about to pull the trigger on some new hi-fi.

Thought I should be straight with you guys. I do expect to do at least 5000 (I mean, that's 3 win smp units... over the course of a full month.

Cheers,

Jimmy

Hmmm I think you should continue solo. Folding in teams seems quite competitive. I may also do the same if others don't think I'm producing enough work units and points for it to be at a satisfactory level.

Good luck, whatever happens and dont' give up on folding completely!
