if you can afford the x2 4800 (get a toledo core any version 2x1mb cache ), get it. I just got a 3700 San Diego myself great core for $228 but if money was no object I would have gotten a dual cpu. Comparitevily the performance from a dual at the same speed as a single, ie 2.2ghz dual vs 2.2ghz single, is about the same at stock and you futureproof yourself because regardless of the games that work better on single core now, lets face it, eventually (and probably not to long) most future programs will be written to take advantage of dual core. Plus there is still graphics cards and a motherboard you will want to consider. I am sure games will still be written to take advantage of singe threaded proccess, but more likely you will see things written for both single and dual. Take FarCry 64 for example. All the hardware I own is able migrate to XP x64 but most games still don't support it but how long is that going to last, probably in a year or less most stuff coming out will mainly support dual core cpu, x64 OSs, with support for older stuff put in as an afterthought, no longer being programmers main focus. If you can afford an fx57 by all means get a x2 4400 toledo, its cheaper and can be overclocked decently. No flaming please, i love my SanDiego but i won't kid myself that it will hold out against even an x2 3800 once code is specialized for dual operations.
