Would a Intel Core Duo at 2.0GHz outperform my 2.4 p4 and 3.83 is a little weak, just seeing whats out there for a s478 and i say a Intel Core Duo and heard they were pretty good, just wanna hear some opinions if it would give me a significant improvment in power, gaming, etc....

Yeah, definatly! I would believe it! No wait let me rephrase that. It all really depends what you mean by "out perform." The duo would be better at somethings, but worse at others. It all depends what you are using it for. You said you were using it for gaming correct? Well if so, then I think they would be probably equally matched. Or the duo might give a wee bit more, but not too much. If you want a killer gaming rig go for AMD or intel conroe (when it comes out)

The Dual core will not help you in gaming any. Of course its going to be a good increase of eprformance in multi-tasking, but games are not designed to take potential of dual core processors.

Help me out here? I too am going through the motions of what to put with a Conroe system? I must say that I'm leaning toward a post Conroe setup because I assume that there are going to be new mainboards to choice from and I already wasted money 2 times on 478 and 775 socket Intel's?

What about the Dempsey, Woodcrest, Kentsfields not mention the Quad Core Clovertowns if they ship mid 2007? I just don't want to be at the top of the curve for 3-6 months with a Conroe, only to find out that 2 woodcrests out perform and offer a wider selection of mainboards to choose from.

It seems like you, (Orange), passed around an Amd / Intel chart with all the projected dates of processors a while back? Do you know for a fact that Conroe will be the best of the bunch toward the end of 2007?

The Core Duo is not a 478 socket processor. You are required to have a 479 socket motherboard in order to run a Core Duo processor. The only one available is this:

Currently there are no desktop motherboards in the U.S. to put this processor in it. If they ever become avaiable, they for sure will be very expensive, hence the desktop board for a Dothan was somewhere in the $280s to $290s, but I think they came down in price a lot.

If you could get a board for the Yonah CPU it would, for lack of a better word, SMASH the 2.4 at any speed. Just take a look atthis thread 21 and 22 second super Pi's at 2.8ghz, I dont know about you but thats pretty fast, theres some more info in there on this CPU line, and from some benchies Ive seen on 3Dmark they score awsome at low speeds 1400+ CPU marks.
