Ctrl+Alt+Del won't work.

Thread Starter
I press it, but then it wouldn't work. The task manager won't open. I press the keys, and Sygate Firewall asks me if I would allow it to some irc server... I click Yes, but still doesn't work. Help.

BTW, if this helps at all, I accidentally opened a .exe file earlier... and then the file disappeared... then Sygate prompted the same (maybe similar) message. I got scared so I just finished scanning for ad/spyware and virus in Safe Mode.

Arrghh.. that sucks...

Here's the prompt.

And I don't think it's StyleXP because I remember using taskmanager after isntalling style.

@Krunk: How'd you fix it? Scanning? Do you know the name of the file that may be causing this problem?

Owch you got whacked with the virus stick. I'm usually pretty good with virus removal but I can't think of where to start without task manager... well ok. First disable system restore, as that's how most of the buggers come back when deleted. Also browse though msconfig... and remove anything from startup and services that you don't recognise. That's pretty general stuff but hopefully it will get you started.

I don't recognize anything. lol

I think I'll just do system restore and see if that works... Hopefully, it will.

Oh, you use Avast? Gosh dang it! I've been using AntiVir and AVG for about 2 years now... (tried Avast, but liked the above two better), and unistalled AntiVir recently because I learned having two AV programs running at the same time will degrade the performance. So I'm with AVG now... Avast is better, I guess, eh?

I just did the system restore to yesterday, and everything's running great!

Thanks to me! lol

I would go to sygate and run all there free scans so you can make sure that all your ports are closed that should be. Sygate has a fairly good setup for checking these things.
