Sweet! Are you sure you don't want to give VMware a go first to get a feel for it man? If you still want to use the machine jumping straight to linux might be a bit much at first. I'm more then happy to help though
First you want to download Ubuntu. I recommend 10.10 because I just don't like 11.04. So download that first here
When you install the partition you will want to use the EXT3 file system. Take a look at the start of digi's guide here
to see how to do it. It can be a little tricky to work out yourself I found lol.
After the install I would do all the updates except going to 11.04. You can if you want I don't think it hurts performance but I just like the feel of 10.10 as I said before
Next you can setup the 12 core script if you wish to go the big bigadv. Use this
guide to help you set up the script. Don't run it right away though.
is the guide I used to set up the client and HFM. I found it very easy to setup and use if I need to change something. Do not worry about any of that the kraken crap or anything else. You can also try and setup langouste using digi's earlier guide but I have never tried it.
After you have everything installed using the linux client is pretty much the same as the win7 client with it's flags and such. Run the configonly flag and set everything up then run the 12 core script. Then it's just start the client and HFM and enjoy!
That's pretty much how I did it. Taking the easiest routes I could find from a few guides and have never had any troubles
