Surely this cant be legitimate. The windows 7 ultimate key on there costs about £20. Here in UK for a windows 7 ultimate OS your looking at £140 for the OEM copy...

I suppose I wont need to use the older version of VM Ware either since I dont' need the core hack. THanks!

Pros of v7: Higher overall PPD

Cons of v7: PPD fluctuates wildly. You will have days where you get 50kPP and days where you have 10k PPD, but from what I've read, the overall average is about 35k PPD, whereas with v6.34 nets about 27k PPD.

As for Ubuntu 12.04 vs. 10.10, 10.10 is actually better unless you do elchucko's kernal fix. If you just want to set up the client and run (for either v6.34 or v7), use 10.10. I thought v7 ran better in 12.04 (I haven't tried v7 yet myself), but after talking with some folders who have tried it in both, they have said that v7 runs better in 10.10 than 12.04 unless you do Chuck's kernal fix for 12.04.

As for VMWare Player, I'm sure this is true, you could use the newer versions, but I've stuck with 3.0.0 because it works and I know how to tweak it (i.e. change it operate in "Low" priority mode automatically). But yeah, since you wouldn't need more than 4 cores, I don't see why you couldn't use the newest version.

Just got a "OpenCL.dll" was not found. Apparently that's why they are failing, but I've never heard of that error before mad.gif

I've run into .dll errors before, they can be fixed, I just don't remember how. Do a google search for "OpenCL.dll error" and you should find the fix pretty quickly. I know when I had them it took about 30 minutes to fix and wasn't too hard.

Also, purchasing a tech bench from Dwood thumb.gif Oh my goodness they are affordable for what you get!

Cna I get a link to where you're buying the tech bench from? I've been looking for one, but don't want to drop a ton of money on it. Thanks!

Yeah, seems fishy, but I'll bookmark it and when I build another system I'll give it a try!

That depends on the setup...If you run the 570 with -advmethods flag, then no, it won't cause a loss on the CPU WUs. The -advmethods WUs do 99% of the work on the GPU, using almost no CPU resources. The non -advmethods WUs use about a core's worth of CPU processing power (like the AMD cards). I currently fold a GTX460 and a GTX570 in my R2 rig (in sig) and don't see any change in the PPD on my CPU when I turn the GPUs on, as I only run the -advmethods.

One warning though, the -advmethods WUs run about 10C hotter than the non -advmethods WUs, so you just want to make sure you have proper cooling. My 570 is water cooled (so it never goes over 40C @ 925MHz), but my 460 is air cooled. Right now I'm running it at stock clocks and see temps around 70C.

On my GTX460 that I fold as a temp for our Wildcard slot (which is in another rig), I run the card at 900MHz with the -advmethods flag, but I leave MSI Afterburner open with a custom fan profile with the fan set at 100% for any temp over 70C. With this, the card runs at 75C (fan at 100%). Its doing well (I've held the top spot in the Wildcard slot for about 2.5 months now), but there is a LOT of fan noise from it. Personally, fan noise doesn't bother me (I have 4 desktops running with a total of 29 fans running (2 of those are AP-30s running full go, 5 others are Corsairs Performance SPs mounted to an exterior rad), so I'm used to working with a TON of fan noise.

With the -advmethods flag, the client won't use any CPU resources, but Afterburner does (not a ton, but you might see about a 1k PPD loss on the CPU with Afterburn running). This is why I don't leave afterburner running on R2-D2. The rig my TC GTX460 is in is a 3570k which is not OCed (yet) and doesn't net a whole lot of PPD anyway, so I don't care if the PPD in that suffers, so I leave Afterburner running on it and take the hit to the PPD.

Simple answer, run it with the -advmethods flag, make sure you have proper cooling and no, you won't see any PPD loss. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Right on, that's awesome! Yeah, you shouldn't see any loss of PPD running it that way.

Try reinstalling the drivers and choose the AMD APP SDK option too, I can't remember if that's selected by default but that's the OpenCL drivers that is needed to fold it. This is at least true for W7, haven't run XP + Radeon folding.

Are there any difference in units these days on GPU (adv vs non-adv flag)? I know there was a time ago, but then the flag didn't matter.
