That depends on the setup...If you run the 570 with -advmethods flag, then no, it won't cause a loss on the CPU WUs. The -advmethods WUs do 99% of the work on the GPU, using almost no CPU resources. The non -advmethods WUs use about a core's worth of CPU processing power (like the AMD cards). I currently fold a GTX460 and a GTX570 in my R2 rig (in sig) and don't see any change in the PPD on my CPU when I turn the GPUs on, as I only run the -advmethods.
One warning though, the -advmethods WUs run about 10C hotter than the non -advmethods WUs, so you just want to make sure you have proper cooling. My 570 is water cooled (so it never goes over 40C @ 925MHz), but my 460 is air cooled. Right now I'm running it at stock clocks and see temps around 70C.
On my GTX460 that I fold as a temp for our Wildcard slot (which is in another rig), I run the card at 900MHz with the -advmethods flag, but I leave MSI Afterburner open with a custom fan profile with the fan set at 100% for any temp over 70C. With this, the card runs at 75C (fan at 100%). Its doing well (I've held the top spot in the Wildcard slot for about 2.5 months now), but there is a LOT of fan noise from it. Personally, fan noise doesn't bother me (I have 4 desktops running with a total of 29 fans running (2 of those are AP-30s running full go, 5 others are Corsairs Performance SPs mounted to an exterior rad), so I'm used to working with a TON of fan noise.
With the -advmethods flag, the client won't use any CPU resources, but Afterburner does (not a ton, but you might see about a 1k PPD loss on the CPU with Afterburn running). This is why I don't leave afterburner running on R2-D2. The rig my TC GTX460 is in is a 3570k which is not OCed (yet) and doesn't net a whole lot of PPD anyway, so I don't care if the PPD in that suffers, so I leave Afterburner running on it and take the hit to the PPD.
Simple answer, run it with the -advmethods flag, make sure you have proper cooling and no, you won't see any PPD loss. Let me know if you have any other questions!Edited by WonderMutt - 9/14/12 at 5:57am
