So, I got tired of my GPU fans at 60+ while load temps are 70*c+. On a Twin Forzer 3!!
Pulled the GPU this morning. Pulled the HS off. My god MSI. It was horrible. Enough TIM on there to do 3 GPU's. Plus, it was hard on the HS and crumbling off the GPU.
All I had was some old Cooler Master TIM from a 212 I got a few months back. So, just used that. Did a few applications to get the right amount for coverage to make sure.
Results: 66-67*c load, fans below 55% now. Dropped 6-8*c, with crappy TIM. (Crappy IMO)
I will look into ordering some Shin-Etsu TIM. Unless there is something better you guys recommend?
Also did something interesting.
Removed my H100 radiator. Took two of the YL and put a o-ring between them and the radiator on all four corners of the fans. Fans mounted to be PUSH. While mounted to the rad only. Then took electrical tape. Taped all around the base of the fans to the rad. Essentially to see any output of flow to go into the radiator. Was then able to removed the mount screws, fans stayed attached because of the tape. Then mounted it back into the case. Which has rubber isolation for mounting itself.
So, then I was looking how much room there is for doing more fans in pull. Well, on the front. My ram slots are in the way. Even if I were to swap out for low profile sticks. A fan would still hit the retention clips for the ram.
However, on the rear...the NB heat sink is in the way. But after sitting a fan in there, I noticed its just on the corner. Took a better look. Hmm..
Took one of my other YL fans, and cut off one corner at a 45, basically just cut off the mount points at a 45* angle. Test fit. Fits nicely.
Did the same, taped on some o-rings on the 3 mount points left. Mounted the fan on the radiator.
I now have Push/Pull - Push on my H100.
I did connect all the fans to the H100 to have some speed control of them.
I put the H100 on the highest setting, it is keeping all three fans at about 1800 rpm and F@H load temps are excellent. Dropped another 1-2*c from just push. Plus, quieter now too.Edited by Rebelord - 12/1/12 at 11:18am
