Keep up the great modding work.

Yeah ive seen a lot of people using those sorts of paint but this mod has to be very cheap as i am currently unemployed, so i will try and avoid using excess materials. I will see what sort of hard clearcoat i can put on after the paint has dried to try and get a more robust paint surface.

Well usually with spray paint you can get a good several coats in before you run out.

Also, there's a reason I saved the xcf file. I'll post it here later today.

OK i think those measurements might be off by a bit, the scale i was using is meant for people and isnt very accurate.

I just weighed a sidepanel on the electronic kitchen scales and it came to about 2.5kg, and the top portion is 1kg. Unfortunately i dont have anything accurate enough and strong enough to weigh the basic chassis (kitchen scales only go up to 5kg).

I think the whole thing is about 16kg form my estimates. The window will probably shave off a bit under 1 kg. Though i am starting to look for some handles and perhaps casters as this thing will be VERY heavy when laden with hardware and water cooling.

Hahaha. How much do they cost at bunnings these days?

I might try and find some coasters or handles at bunnings tomorrow.

Ok i have been super lazy and havent done any modding. I'm basically putting off the time i need to drain my WC loop to get the radiator.

First a bit of an update of whats happening. I havent got enough acrylic to do what i want inside the case and to have a window, so i decided to leave the window mod for another time after i get more acrylic. I am also forgoing a DVD drive, in the future when i need one i will just hook it up manually.

So tomorrow (actually today) i will be fabricating 2 or 3 more panels of acrylic. One for the case floor, one as a backplate for the GFX card and the other will go to the right of the motherboard to cover up the excess holes in the motherboard tray.

Stay tuned

Update 13 - Acrylic GFX back plate and motherboard surrounds.

Well it has been a few days since an update so i thought i should do something. I got the last of the acrylic pieces (i think) cut today. Only a little bit of work is required on one of them for cable management.

I am considering going white/blue on the outside instead of black/blue. Couple of reasons, one, i saw another build done and it looked great, and two, it will mean i wont need to buy any black paint so it will most likely end up being cheaper.

Cuts marked out.

Graphics card backplate cut.

Graphics card backplate sanded ready for paint.

You can see the floor panel which is already sanded, i also marked out the holes for the standoffs in the acrylic next to the motherboard.

Standoff holes drilled, i was using a brand new drill bit which ended up damaging one of the holes because i wasnt careful enough. It doesnt matter though because the holes will be hidden by the motherboard.

I will be cutting out a few slots for cable management out of the acrylic next to the motherboard.

This is unrelated but just thought some of you might be interested. This is to allow me to charge my small MP3 player which lives in tha garage for music. It is a 5v switchmode power supply hooked up to a butchered USB connector, it isn't pretty but it was made out of spare parts and so was much cheaper than buying one ready made from a store.

I think tomorrow i will pull my rig apart for final cable management cuts and radiator placement. While that is down i will be running my old 775 rig.

Stay tuned
