Yes it is, that is the hinted release date, but I suspect that is just a rumor. Look for it between June and July.

Unfortionately the XE model will not release with the others. I will come out shortly after the rest. I believe this is because Intel wants to put all their resources to making all the mainstream chips they can (mainstream as in non-XE). Also, if the XE version does not support current motherboards, then there is no reason to release it until motherboards for it are available.

would cpu-z recognize the chip as a conroe? i don't know how the program tells what core you have, but it seems to me like it would need an update to be able to recognize a new core.

So, right now I have a P4 560. Its LGA775, and I am looking into a new motherboard. If I got one of the new mobos (say, the high end one for conroe), my old processor would work in it until I got the cash for conroe, correct?

Also, what do you guys think will happen to chipset and availablility for these boards. For example, DFI doesnt make a LanParty for Intel as they probably recognize they aren't on top for gaming. ATI and their new 3200 platform is only coming out for AMD. So, you think once Conroe comes out people will finally make Crossfire/SLI mobos for Intel, or what?

But isnt the FX60 the flagship of AM2? I am not trying to start a flame war but AMD better release some new processor by the time Conroe comes out, if the fall release date does come true. The FX60 is a damn nice chip but I just dont think it will hold up to the newer Conroe architecture

You see, Intel has perfected the 65nm core in the dying Netburst architecture. That enables them to jump right into Core without and problems. AMD's problem is that they are still on 90nm and they are going to go into AM2 with 90nm. That is not a smart move my them. They should has transitions to 65nm on current boards and processors, gotten the technology down, and then move to 65nm. As Ropy eligenty said in another post, Intel learned from its release mistakes on the P3 and P4. AMD is going to have those problems this time around.

Conroe is scheduled to be released to retailers in Q3, that's July-Sept, not Fall. In fact, from what I understand, corporations are supposed to start recieving Conroes next month.

So July/August is a good bet. I doubt it would be delayed till Sept.

September was Intel's original release date, and they said that the testing of Conroe was so sucessful that they moved the release up to June/July. There was another rumor of a release date pushed up to April, but it turned out not to be true.
