Tell me about it... I've been exploring the same cave network at the lava level for the past few days... it just doesn't end...

Also that ship is beast, I wanted to do something like that.

You need to add a glass floored crow's nest to the top of that little tower on top of the castle (the one you're looking at at 1:59). It's so obvious!
For the first point, yeah that's what I meant. It's in my storage area at the moment.
Second point: Good idea...I had considered it, but at the time my tower had just burnt down so I was running out of wood as it was...I'll add it to the to-do list. Need to get the main 'control room' fully lit first, as you can see it's a bit dingy at the moment.

Well I think the floor should be glass, for easier seeing out. Or, maybe a small wood thing outlined by glass, and then with 1 block high glass walls would be more aesthetically pleasing. I mean something like this:
gggggg
gwwwg
gw Lwg
gwwwg
gggggg

(L for ladder, w for wood, g for glass)

I feel like your base desperately needs this I mean, you're already up on the roof, the tower is already there, why not add a lookout?

This is a FYI to everyone, do not use train tracks in a alpha public server they have a major bug which causes people to disconnect and lag.

Just discovered an awesome way to mine flint that I haven't seen described anywhere.

So you know how sand is destroyed when it falls onto a torch? The same thing happens with gravel.

You probably already know where I'm going with this:

Place a block of dirt on the ground. Place a cobblestone above the dirt. Destroy the dirt and put a torch where the dirt was. We are going to jump/place gravel up to the map ceiling on top of this cobblestone in a moment.

But first, we need a way to get down. Directly next to the torch/cobblestone/gravel stack, we need to create a pool of water at least 2 deep. I prefer it to be a 4x2x2 pool, to make sure I don't miss.

So we have our pool we can jump into, and it's time to place the gravel. Get on top of the cobblestone, and jump/place gravel up as high as you can go. Jump down into the pit of water. Destroy the cobblestone, and the tower of gravel will fall onto the torch and all be destroyed - then we just run around and pick it all up. Repeat until you have a satisfactory about of flint.

This should be much much faster than jump/placing a big stack and then shoveling down through it.

I haven't tested this much yet, but so far so good. Theoretically, to achieve maximum efficiency you'd want to mine a shaft down to the adminium level, and then jump/place all the way up to the cieling of the map. I'm not sure how the game would handle that though, as there would be 128 chunks of gravel floating around on the ground - there might be a cap on how many blocks can be free floating like that, which would cause some of the gravel to disappear which would be bad obviously. I dunno, I'll need to experiment.
