No it isn't.. Mob spawners only spawn a max of 5 active mobs. And only one type of mob.

I'm currently building a 144x144 passive spawning monster factory in SMP. Quite massive heh.

Wow, that's massive. Just one 144x144 area or stacked areas? I have a 50x50 angry mob farm up and running and I've considered adding another layer above it for either more mobs or passive mobs.

Well Mob spawners are just a simple way to get some OK resources.
Once you start building massive ones that can get thousands of items a hour..
It kind of ruins the game if your trying to play legit, but it's still an accomplishment nevertheless..

what exactly is 'legit' play in minecraft? as long as you didn't cheat/edit items to make the grinder, then I'd say it's legit.

If you build a giant mob farm by hand with out cheating that's as legit as it gets. Maybe it becomes more legit if you don't AFK for long periods of time collecting the loot. I think the only way it can get more legit is if you came up with and designed the idea by your self.

I did not say it wasn't legit..
I said it RUINS the game if your trying to play legit...
Usually a person plays legit so they can't get thousands of items like INVedit.
When you can get 3,000+ items easily, you might as well hack.
