404 challenge? Is that where you get an error and can't log in?

Seriously though, I don't know what the challenge is.

my 2 cents.
This is a low budget game. Not some giant blockbuster (Or is it? Pun intended) made by Blizzard. The premise of the game would be way to complicated without using blocks likes this. Also, you can mod the game to get more types of objects and better textures so it looks nicer.

Thanks!
The tip on charcoal torches alone is one of those forehead-slappers because it should be obvious but is easy to overlook. I have overlooked it because I get lots of coal but, just like IRL, I realize that over time I will have to go further and further afield to replace it. So charcoal is a great idea since trees grow so quickly. I also recently switched to burning sticks for the same reason.

Regarding walls - At first I built walls, and then walls with trenches around them and then filled the trenches with water. However I now think fences are much more practical. They not only keep livestock in and enemies out, but strategically placed blocks spaced one block distant from the fence allows people to leap over the fence but enemies apparently cannot. My homestead is finally peaceful and the gravy is I can snipe mobs from a safe distance with bow and arrow and collect goodies. Lava traps are also fun.

Good Mining!

Greetz
Simply put this game is brilliant and here's why. In SIMS and other so-called God-Games players deal with what is essentially macros - preformed entire buildings and services so there is always a "sameness" and considerable limitations on what is possible, severly limiting not only gameplay but also appearance.

The blocks are what is so brilliant because they are so fundamental that it's like programming in Assembly compared to Visual C. The variety of what a player can do is phenomenal. When you add to the mix that blocks can be broken down and/or combined to make new things you begin to see just how deep and wide this game is.

If you watch any clips or see any screenies you will see amazing and unique creativity
and it is obvious that you have yet to do this because it is not possible to not see things of ingenuity and beauty in what people have already done.

Ingenuity Example
- there is a resource called redstone that can be broken down and used, for one thing as a switch, say, to open a door. Another would close it. Some genius inspiration hit one guy who realized this is a binary switch! He created a computer by stacking and wiring together blocks linked with redstone in a fractal manner in a computer game from raw resources!!!

Beauty Example - After you have managed to survive and begin to amass resources and expand your home base, just climb to the top of the mountain you have hollowed out for your home (or converted to.... whatever!) and look down on your gardens and livestock corrals, sanctuaries and mines, defenses, traps and path markers just as night falls. When you see the torches outline your holdings and it looks like a city at Christmas and it is all yours frm your effots, and realize you no longer fear the night, it is a profound and beautiful moment. It is as good as gaming gets. Period.

It may not be for everybody but if you have any sense of work ethic and pride in what you do with your creativity, it will take maybe 2-3 hours to hook you hard.

Na, I'm not really lucky, it's just whenever I mine I make sure I'm a nice position where I can at least have a one second reaction if an enemy comes.I play on normal mode by the way, .
Also..The resources aren't a lot?Five hundred iron takes a couple of days.

The graphics are part of the appeal. Plus, Minecraft just wouldn't work without blocks.
