Mine are just all over the place branching from one main dig site which is under my house. I put up torches, but since I've hit this one site it goes everywhere and I didn't even dig into it.

I use lots of torches so I don't get lost. I've ran into a lot of open area's with lava and water. Still have yet find diamonds or even gold, but I'm sure I'll find'em soon. Only had the game for like 4-5 days.

The iron is better than the gold in terms of tools and strength.

Ah ok. Iron seems semi-rare, but I have found some good spots sometimes.
I like the Lava, it's awesome to use for cooking up stuff, made like 100 glass with one lava bucket.

Just figuring out some things as I go, I don't wanna look up "everything" unless I'm totally stuck. Kinda ruins the fun of just trying and doing new things in the game.

Is gold actually good for anything?

You find iron fairly common if you don't burrow too deep. It seems to get rarer the lower you go.

Golden Apples that restore 10 health.

Hmmmm I think I need to make some buckets... How do you fill them with lava?

Just gotta find a spot with lava, I think it can't be flowing/moving or something like that to collect it. Otherwise it's just like picking up water with a bucket, same use.

You have to pick it up from the original spawn square, not one it flows to.

I really just started playing single player last night. Way more fun that I thought it would be. The monsters add just enough difficulty. So rather than waiting for daylight, I've just been a mole and burrowing. I've nearly hollowed out this mountain I started on. Then I cracked in to this enourmous cave... I haven't found the end of it yet.

Yeah in single player you spend so much more time digging. I hollowed out a mountain, made an underground farm, made some walls to have a tree farm, and now I just enclosed a pretty big area with walls. No idea what to do with it lol.
