Will SLi ever get close o to 100% better than a single card?

Thread Starter
I was wondering that since having 2 SLi 7800gt's you only gain about 30% power, will it ever reach close to 100% through drivers or something?

drivers? i doubt it, hitting that or near the 100% advantage from another card but until advancements in chipsets cpu's ram ect. The current technology cannot fully use the advantages of 2 cards working in tandum.

it also really depends on the specific game and how well it is coded for SLI. some games perform very well and can give close to a 50% increase.

some allow up to 80% or so, i do believe. It will never be 100% efficient though. There are added delays in the graphics system to make two graphics cards work together. So although you do get a nice boost sometimes, it will never be perfect.

If you're in to cars, think of SLI as a twin turbo setup. Even though that 2nd turbo does add power, one turbo the same size as two seperate ones is a more efficient setup because the twin turbos need extra parts to work together

EDIT: This was my official 1000th post,

2x anything in a computer is not 2x the result!
I think they leave out the little . in front of every numerical statement relating to "x" times more/better/faster.
4x to 8x AGP for example x4

never a SLI configuration can reach 100% efficiency, just like dual core or dual channel RAM, i think 50 -> 80% is best it can do, imho. Depend on how good your game's coding, maybe it can go to 81%
