P4C800e memory

So a few days ago I upgraded my 9800pro to an evga7800gs and am very pleased so far. However I now have the bug to upgrade my system memory to 2 gigs and wanted your opinion. here are some of my choices.

DDR400

DDR500

I can currently o/c my system to 3.91 12hours prime stable with a fsb of 230 17x multipier or 14x multi with a 280 fsb 5:4 divider. If I try to push it further it just dosn't seem as solid and crashes at 4.0. Now if I go with the ddr500 I MIGHT be able to get a fsb of 280 at 1:1 or under clock it to 230 and tighten the timings. Or if I go with some ddr400 I could overclock it the same as my set up now but just have 2gigs, what to do.

So I see newegg has ddr500 g.skill 2 gig on sale again and think I will get it.

So lets say I get this ram, ideally I would want to overclock it to 279 fsb to keep my 3.9 prossesor speed. Now I Know that may be an ambitious o/c so would I be better off lowering my o/c to maintain a high fsb or under clock it to
230 fsb and tighten the timings to keep my 3.9, witch is the best way to go?

Well I just got in 2x1gig g.skill and it won't do 270 fsb. I set it to a 260 fsb and all is ok. So If I go back to 17x multi I could do a 230 fsb and keep my 3.9 and tighten the timings or see if I can get a 266 fsb with a 14x multi but that will lower my max cpu o/c. As far as a divider goes this ram does not like it wont boot. I like the idea if 2 sticks instead of 4 since I feel I am already pushing my power supply to its limits. Returning the memory for something else is always an option. Any suggestions?

Certainly you will lower your overclock when moving from 1GB to 2GB. Moving to 2 X 1GB was a better idea than 4 X 512 as the memory controller has more data access requests at the 4 X 512 level. You can think of it as having two houses to pick up something from as opposed to four houses.

Do you have an unlocked processor?

What is your Vdimm voltage at this 260FSB overclock?
