have you tried uninstalling itunes, restarting, and reinstalling itunes?

also make sure to use the 64-bit version

I've tried it. I have tried everything there is. I even just tried winamp, and winamp likes to crash too. I have tried everything I can possibly think of, the last thing I can try is shooting my iphone and killing steve *********** jobs because he likes to torture people with his awesome devices and ********* software.

um ok?
if winamp isnt working either there might be more wrong with your computer than these programs just not working right, i would recommend backing everything up and reinstalling windows

itunes hasnt been the most stable software on windows but 10 is supposed to be a little better than it has been

Well that is my question really, is my computer just not likely to agree with 64bit w7? Should I just go ahead and install the 32 bit???

since you only have 2gb of ram you wouldnt really get much benefit of using a 64 bit program so it wouldnt hurt to try.
though i did notice that they recommend the 64 bit version if you are running 64bit but a 32bit program should still work

well the thing is, the ipod structure isn't really all that complex, or at least it wasn't... From what I remember the device usually shows up as a plain fat32 usb device with a specific file structure correct?

First was it formatted with HFS or Fat32?

When I had the same problem (and it occurred with MediaMonkey too) I ended up discovering that the drive my music was dying.

Tried checking the disc for errors / bad sectors etc?

iTunes is just an awful piece of software (even if it is working) I'm not even going to try and sugar-coat that at all; you'd be better of bypassing it altogether.

Download Media Monkey; you can sync your iPod with it (worked with my 80GB Classic) and it has a plethora of features you'll probably find quite useful

MediaMonkey was all I used for years. Since iTunes 9.0, it's been great. It boots quicker than MM, is more responsive than MM and has come great features. Bug-free.

There's nothing wrong with MM, and it is lighter on resources. Don't immediately listen to iTunes haters trying to be fashionable or relying on their impressions of iTunes from several releases ago.

You said that you have the same problem with other music software - that suggests that it's not an iTunes problem.
