Uncle gonna get me about $1000 worth of comp parts bu i need help in deciding.

Ok, my uncle is gonna get me some comp parts because he had just got a really nice settlement. I think I can get about a thousand bucks worth of parts so I was thinking of upgrading my cpu, video card, and mabey just mabey another ig of ram. Because this is the 1st and last upgrade I can see happening for a great great while.

I was thinking this cpu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103545
Will it run as fast as my 3700 sd that's oc'd to 2.8ghz on games not utilizing duel cores.

Mabey this video card, plan on going back to nvida because my mobo supports sli: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150139
I don't know really anything about the 7900 series, but is the 7900gt worth the extra dough over a 7800gtx? Also will either a 7800gtx or 7900gt make a huge diffrence from my current video card; an oc'd x800xl?

If I went with all of that I would have about $150 left, and say I were to get another 1 gg stick of ram....what should I get, my current ram is pc3700 muskin ram that runs on duel channel.

If your gonna spend that much on a proc, why dont you just wait for Conroe? apparently its suppost to do very well to benchmarks ive seen.

When will Conroe be out, and will it use the 939 socket?

4400=[ or 170 would be a better ship and cheaper to boot. Cant go wrong witha 7900GT. You could wait for conroe but we havent really seen deffiniive prices yet to be sure what it will be. SAndy is anice processor unless you really wanna go dual core but it wont be a mojor improvement imo.

I would say go with a X2 3800+, the Opteron 165, or the Opteron 170 instead of the 4400+. All of those overclock like crazy. One consideration with the Opteron 165 is it only has a multiplier of 9x, so if your motherboard has FSB/HTT limitations you might want to reconsider. The 3800+ and 170 have a 10x multiplier that work better with close-ended FSB (i.e. 274MHz max).

I would go with the 7900GT like you were thinking. The 6800GTX is more then the 7900GT anyways. In terms of performance I bet they are comparable. Check THIS out. At stock settings, not overclocked, the 7900GT will outperform the 7800GTX, but oh so marginally. If you were to buy an overclocked version of the 7800GTX it would come out on top, ever so marginally. 7900GT is cheaper and gives you comparable performance.

If you went with the the Opteron 170 and the 7900GT you should have about $250 left that you could use for a kick ass 2x1GB kit. From the sounds of it you were going to add another 1GB kit to an existing 1GB kit. This just spells memory controller disaster, sell your current kit on eBay and use that money to invest in some other component, new psu, sound card, etc.

Just to clarify the 4600+ has the same L2Cache as the Opteron 165. The 3800+ has 2x512MB L2Cache, so the Opteron 165 would have double the cache when compared to the 3800+. A lot of people can get 2.5 to 2.6GHz off of the Opteron 165, and a few have reach 2.8GHz. Remember the 9x mulitplier if you don't have a motherboard that can go from 200MHz to 400MHz.
