Is a sound card worth it? - Page 4

For music and movies, i'd say it is a great option...fair price also...does it come with that external tweaker like in that one picture? or just the card? either way, it has enough channels to get you into a game...not as good as the newer cards, but its a great card i think....definately better than my onboard!

I would be using it for music, movies, and games. More music and movies than games though. probably 40/40/20 music/movies/games percentage wise.

Then you found a good card. I dunno how many stores you have options to choose from...but if you have more than one, search around for the best price, even though i think that is a fair price

Just make sure you have speakers to use the thing to its full potential!

ok dang sorry i was talking to two different people i see now, lol. BRISKbaby, the card for you would be of the two choices that were listed earlier...depending on what you want to spend....the cheaper one would be good for music and movies...but the more expensive one would help gaming a bit more (since it has EAX 2), while also balancing movies and music as well.

Here are the links as stated earlier:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102176

If you don't mind spending a bit more, then get the higher priced one. Just remember to shop around for the best price using something like shopping.yahoo.com to compare prices!

Yes, Gill you should go with the one that you found earlier, it should be good for you in music, movies, and even gaming...as long as you aren't wanting superior performance is games like F.E.A.R. or Battlefield 2.

IMO, the Xfi is a good investment, if you can squeeze it into your budget somehow because it just wont go out of date for ages yet. As you can see then new games coming out have such a high sound quality level that it will take something more than the other cards suggested for it to be good enough. It seems to be the trend recently that games devs are looking at sound in a much higher detail. Just my 2c though, cuz you seem to have a tight budget.

how does this look? it's the cheapest i found and it's only a drive away instead of a 4 day shipping time. (save on S&H costs too!)
