yea, thats what i thought. so basically go ahead and set my motherboard to ddr400 and oc away.

why would motherboard companies make a divider that would force the ram freq higher than the cpu?

There are very isolated sets of people that are willing to overclock their ram, but not their cpu. Running DDR500 under full warranty while keeping the cpu at stock speeds would be better than running both at stock for the extremely timid.
