Putting my first rig together! need advice - Page 2

I would go even further and get an small pc toolkit with an anti-static wristband, just to be sure, but then I live in a dryer area and I'm always getting static shoccked by something *argh*.

Also, I would definitely use another computer and download the nvidia and Sillicon Image raid controller drivers (***EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT RAIDING THE DRIVES***) onto a floppy for a clean windows install, even though they should also be on the ASUS CD that comes with the board, because windows will not recognize the drives otherwise. If you're not setting up an SLi configuration, then you're probably not going to need to do anything in the bios.

If you do have the Antec P180 case, then you're going to love it. I love mine, even though I had to switch to a Lian Li because of space issues. My Lian Li is MUCH louder, and not nearly as cool looking. The rubber shock absorbers for the hard drive casings with the P180 case are priceless imo. I love that case so much that I'm considering setting up a build in it, even though I live alone and have no need for two pcs...

and as with ur concerns on the overclock...dual cores are harder to overclock, so 2.8 is achievable w/ good cooling otherwise it wouldn't be stable. For opterons though I think it should, i have no experience with opterons but I heard from other people that they are good, especially single cores. I'm not experienced w/ dual cores but I heard they are hard to get high overclock since they're dual core.

I suppose you can plug 2 fans + the CPU fan, so the third fan should be alimented from a connector like the one that powers your DVD/CD unit. You have at least four of them, so I suppose you can spare one.
How many wires does the case fan has and what colour are they? You can connect the fan to the other conector by matching the colours, connect black to black and red to red (if the fan has black/red power wires). When experimenting with those connectors you can unplug the DVDs or HDDs to be on the safe side. If the fan turns on, you're good to go.
Cheers!

Possibly - Each chip has its own limits though.

Are you sure all the fans are 3 pin? None w/ a 4 pin molex connection? If not, you can get a fan controller @ newegg. I've treid the Aerogate II but thats my only experience with them.

This one should do you fine:

Also, safety is good and all. You paid alot for those components i'm sure so you want to keep them in good condition... but... I have swapped mobos case to case, processors, ram, hard drives, cards of all types... and i have NEVER cooked anything w/ static.

I know its not exactly procedure, but i work on my knees, on carpet and have shocked myself on components 671231543345 times.

I have on the other hand stabbed a motherboard w/ a screwdriver puttin on a heatsink. barely even scratched the board, but it was toast. hehe... 2 days old no less

Just another point of view...
