well, i think there are instructions on tightening, but you'll be installing on a 64 chip that has the built in heatspreader... you won't have a huge problem overtightening it. I installed on an athalon XP-M which just has the chip in the middle, thats where you really need to watch out

You still don't want to overtighten, you could bust the CPU's IHS or your motherboard.

Edit: Yes, the Big Typhoon will fit in a P180 just fine. If you have problems, you can just take of the side panel.

Oh, the Opteron 175 has a built in heatspreader? I asked someone a month ago or so, and they said they didn't

Yup. The IHS also has information on it that will help us tell how much you might be able to OC your 175. It's called a stepping, a five character string that tells all about the chip. For example, one stepping for the Opteron 146 is CAB2E.

When a dual core processor says '2.2Ghz' does that mean on EACH core? so you would have a total of 4.4Ghz processing power??? I've never seen it explained before, so thought i'd ask.

If you dont have enough 3pin fan connectors on your mobo, (like me, i have 1!) buy some 3pin - 4pin molex doodads, like this... http://www.chillblast.com/product.ph...&cat=35&page=1

I'm sure you can find something equivalent in your country. If not, im sure chillblast ship everywhere.

I have no idea what that means

i dont plan on OC'in my Opteron until I know a lot about it.

I just want my setup right now to get me to 2.8GHZ on both cores STABLE. thats all i want

well... i'd go through all mobo settings to get situated with them first. Also, read your mobo manual thorouly. When your in mid windows install and its not doing what you want... chances are its a mobo setting.

You should however be able to install xp w/o hitting the bios.

This is an image of the chip your getting. The main metal thing on top is the integrated heatsink.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowIm...A6CD%20-%20OEM

Also, looking through the reviews of this chip on newegg, seems like results are mixed. Most seem to be topping out @ 2.4-2.6 with a rare 2.8. But like Namrac said, the steppings have alot to do with the potential of a chip.
