You must remember, this is an internet forum. So tone of speech, verbalization, ect; don't communicate well through text.
So it's all about the context of the section:
Bad = "God why didn't you just search for it
Good = "I for (xx reason) can't get you the link, but use the search bar at the top and search for [term(s) here] and it should be listed in the results
Obviously those are on the high and low ends of the scale and won't always be that obvious.
Though rememinding people, or simply telling them of features is always a good thing if you do it with a good intention at heart.
I taught about 5 people a week or so ago that we had *Google-Tags for these forums where you simple rapped the tags around the term(s) you wanted and then it would automatically create a Google Search link for them to click.
While Google-Search may not be the easiest thing for users here, in the off topic section it can be rather useful.
As an example: "Where did you find your Hayley Williams Pictures?"
"I usually just search Google for Hayley Williams
and use the resolution I want, I don't have a specific source."
