budget AMD Build for friend (suggestions are welcome)

Budget: 600 CAD$
Need: PC and LCD
Usage: Web browsing, NO gaming, NON HD movies, and some 3D Graphics Editing (I think she uses Maya)

So these are what I'm thinking of getting. Please tell me if I have better options for any of these. Also, please note I'm getting these from Canadian sites, and the shipping will all be free, perhaps except for the Hard drive.

I'd suggest taking this case over the Antec 300, The Cooler Master CM 690

http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=027795

The Psu looks allright but there's also a Corsair 430 TX on sale

http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=032795

The rest of the setup looks great.

If your 3d editing it will be laggy as a mother without a dedicated card

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm a little over budget, so I can't spend any more than I already have on the case. And can you explain why you have suggested the Corsair 430 over the Coolermaster 500W I chose, because I found some nasty reviews for it on newegg. Thanks

And yes, I will need to put in a video card. Thanks for reminding me. I should have one lying around at home. Or maybe I can put in my HD4750 or whatever it is, but I don't want to make it too loud. Will having a cheaaaaap PCI-E GPU force the CPU to lag?

Does anyone have other suggestions to save a little cash on the CPU/MOBO combo, and the PSU?

If you are going to add a video card then you can save a bunch by using a motherboard like this one:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16813130254

If she does 3D editing I would consider getting 4GB of memory rather than just 2GB. You can get 4GB of DDR3-1066 for $76 on newegg, I realise that is more than what you have at the moment, but the change of motherboard saves the difference.

Using a mATX motherboard means you could just get an mATX case for cheaper, something like this:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16811119193

It doesn't have a front intake fan, but you aren't choosing particularly high performance and high heat components so that shouldn't be much of an issue.

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16827106289

That will save you $5, not much but it all helps.

For a video card, something like a 5670 will be adequate I would think. Can find that for around $90.

The rest of the build seems very good.

Hope that helps.

Okay I updated most of the items with better prices/performance. Total comes to 700 before the $30 MIR. I'll have to check what GPUs I have rotting under my bed too.

And I might pick up an Antec Sonata III w 500W PSU (guessing its new or fairly new) for 80 bucks. That would save me close to 30 bucks.

Okay so here's my build that I delivered to my friend with XP SP3

MSI 870-G45
Phenom II X4 955 BE + Scythe Katana III
Mushkin Blackline 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz CL7 DIMM
Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 500W Power Supply
Antec Three Hundred Case
Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB HDD
Samsung SH-S223L/BEBS SATA Black 22X Lightscribe DVD-Writer OEM
Samsung E2320 LCD Monitor
HD3850 GPU - free

I had a few days to work on this after work. Few of the problems I ran into:

1. Build -> Boot -> Windows install hangs
2. Windows installed on HDD using my own pc
3. HDD back on new build -> Windows starts -> hangs after couple minutes
4. Used my own HDD on new build -> crashes at windows load
5. Rans memtest86+ on both sticks -> Fine
6. Tried three different GPUs
7. Tried PSU on my own PC -> Fine
8. Thought maybe it was the missing SATA driver -> no
9. So I tried everything but not sure if the motherboard is defect or not up to par
10. more research -> increased dram voltage -> windows loaded -> hangs
11. more dram voltage -> crash
12. increased vcore -> stable -> temps not too bad
13. cpu freq increase -> temp 60+ at load
14. bought HSF: Scythe Katana 3 -> installed -> delivered to friend

So seems like I'm leaking power because I had to increase dram (1.7?) and core (less than 1.4) voltage to get the HDD to load windows and keep running without hanging or crashing.

I still have to go set it up, and see if it runs stable with prime and her 3D application... but do i have to tweak other settings if i increase voltage and freq for the ram and core? or is it all good if it runs stable?

Oh and I have a HD47xx GPU that needs two PCIE power connections, and the PSU I got for her only has one PCIE connection. It's not okay to just connect one, and leave the other one, right?
