Ehh... that would be TiVo..

OR

Call your cable company and ask them if they have a TV recorder stuff like TiVo. I think all major cable companies offer them.

Yeah, just like Zipnogg. Get a DVR (digital video recorder), get the biggest you can get. It seems to me that all that video adds up in the hard drive fast.

well i was looking at this... http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16815116609
and i really want it to watch tv shows that are on when im not home. from what i read, you can record them to your HD, and play them back later on your TV. and at max quality it takes up 2 gigs per hour, but thats fine because ill just delete after im done watching... but any1 know what the picture quality is like?

I don't know if this will work but here is a link for this idea.http://www.oneforthelittleguy.com/20...corder-part-2/
Also If I'm not mistaken on the FAQs portion of these forums I saw somthing on putting your shows from a DVR onto your pc if you felt the need.

Hauppauge is a good TV Tuner manufacturer from what I've seen.

A friend of mine has a $20~ TV tuner, and it still had an acceptable quality. With a name like Hauppauge and a price like that, you'll get good quality recordings.

mycomputersucks: Thanks for the site plug. I have no idea who you are, so really, thanks.

gorgon2k: Caught the trackback in my referer logs, so I thought I'd check out where it came from, and I can prolly answer your question.

Yes, you can do all that with a decent Tuner card and good PVR software. If you want to pump it all out to your TV, you're going to need a gfx card with some kind of TV out, and some way of feeding the audio to the TV (you can do this on the cheap by getting a speaker to RCA Y adapter cable).

If you're running Windows MCE and have a remote, then you can run the GB PVR software from the remote. Or if you're running vanilla XP, or even an older version of Windows, there are plenty of USB remote kits out there.

The BIG advantage of the GB PVR software is that it's free, and it also pretty much ignores DRM.

hey buddy, the correct place to post this would be in the HTPC/PVR/DVR section. so you should pm an admin and ask them to move this thread there.

as for a tv tuner card, I have my HTPC set up to do that very thing and I use a haupauge wintv pvr150 and am pleased with it.

sorry bout the wrong section.. but also this unit has a co-ax output so that should handle the audio and video. now does the picture quality replicate that of just watching regular tv?

well the picture quality isn't as good to jus watch tv, but it is pretty decent when recording. not sure why this is. the picture quality is much better than my old ATI HDTV card
