Why do you think the 7900GT would bottleneck the 3700+? Where did you get this information? Plenty of people on overclock.net have this combination in their rig and not all of them overclock. I'm sure it would be fine. I would still get it.

either way 7900gt or 7800gt will be fine. If you can find a 7900gt 10 bucks more go with that i cant see him caring about a better card for 10 bucks more. The above link is for a better psu and since he isnt going to sli or oc the psu will be better and 51 bucks. See if maybe a you can find a slightly cheaper case to then make fiting your budget better.

He is fine with a 7800gt......yes that is the power supply I had for him first ...the FSP 450 but he says it will put him too much over his budget..... I will try to find a different case that he likes and maybe fix the problem with the psu and maybe just get the 7900gt.....

Can you guys recommend a cheaper case ... that he might still like?
Also is there anyother part I may go cheap on the maybe squeeze 2gb of ram in?

just make sure he knows that cheap psu's can potentially destroy your comp.

Shoddy building isn't something to play around with when it's something like power.

About the bottlenecking business, I posted a topic, but accidently put it in the worng forum. There are a few replies right now, but it just got moved, so hopefully there will be more. Anyways, here is the link.

I edited this link, so now it should work!

Here is a case that is $120 shipped. It comes with a 500w PSU. It's got some great reviews and an 80% 5 egg rating. The only thing that would worry me is the PSU. Although this PSU doesn't have any bad reviews, most cases/PSU combo reviews that I've looked at always seem to say something negative about the PSU.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811144125

I'm not sure what would happen to your computer if your PSU ever burned out while you were using it?... Somebody else may better inform you of that problem.

Overall, I'd say this is a safe bet unless you ever decide to go SLI. Then I would for sure invest in a brand name 520-550w PSU. Just to be safe.

Good luck!

well, hmmm, I really like the case since it has alsome cooling, but i dont know about the 7900, the 7800 i picked out is black and green which goes with the case, im sure i could go a little over 1k but not more than 100, plus im not going to get this till after school is over so im sure most of the prices will be lower.

Did your mum not teach you manners? It was a very worthwhile comment.

Do your homework 7900GT's are currently priced around the price of 7800GT's
