PS3 price revealed? - Page 5

Most of WIndows Live is being lumped into dev kits also for other interfaces as well ??? I thought I saw that somewhere...

It is conceivable that someone logs into Yahoo Messenger.. You will see it while playing XBox.

MS has one thing going for it - that is breadth in market.

I'm waiting for the GO, that's gonna be the cheapest, and the best for what I'd want to do.

Really, for the average person, a PS3 or Xbox 360 is a much better option. It they could integrate the PS3 or Xbox360 into a "Media Center" style computer, where you have access to email and the internet (maybe even soltaire and Word) then they would have a real seller.
No you can surf the internet on the PS3, you can use PS2 games online so its still good for that, its just that the PS3 has some strengths PCs ant got and vice versa, like up to 8 people playing on two different screens, ONE computer cant do that, 4 Can but you would have to spend 7 or 8k for that setup so... and the dual 7900s arnt really that much better since for the price of 2 of them u can get 3 PS3s, also PCs have many problems, but offer a little more varity

That is a good point. But instead of saying just the PS3, you should say consoles, since all of them can do it.

You can serf the internet on the PS3? Really? They said you could on the PS2, but you cant. And no, you cant have more than 2 people playing on a computer unless its turn-based. And dual 7900's? Peh, 1 7900GTX is enough for being right there with a PS3. The RSX is just a modified 7800GTX 512 after all. And PC's really dont have "many problems". Unless you of course overclock and or mod hardware.

Personally, I don't see how that is a plus. After growing up with PC gaming and a dedicated screen, split-screen gaming on consoles seemed, frankly, retarded and lame from the first time I ever tried it. Everyone raved about Goldeneye on the N64 back in the day, and I thought it was one of the worst multiplayer experiences ever with that 4-wat split screen nonsense. Maybe it was good for a console, but it still sucked eggs. (Explosions that could hit you through walls didn't help either, but that's another complaint.)

So the only time cramming a bunch of people onto the same screen makes sense to me is something like Madden or NHL, where everyone is on the same field and it's not a split screen. Once you split that screen, it's absolute crap and I won't touch it.

on another note i like console gaming over pc gaming i used to be a pc gamer i find the keyboard and mouse to unfriendly i mean really to me its rather hard to straff to the left while jumping up and crouching while switching to a gernade all in one smooth motion like i can on a console sure you can get a controller for the pc but its not as fluid as a game on a console designed to work with that controller to many varibles with setting up pc controllers some games support certain features of a controller and in my case never seem to be the ones i need and some dont offer any support at all.. as far as the x360 well ill take it over a ps3 graphics are good enough to keep me content for now but there is always XBOX LIVE which to me is way better then any online gaming enviroment today my only hope is that some good pc games (which a lot of em are) find their way on to the 360

I think the biggest problem for me with split screen on multiplayer console games is that you get people looking at each others screens. I don't care how hard you try or how big you TV is, you always tend to glance around and it really takes the fun out of it. I play Halo 2 with my roomies and it just go so bad after a while that I brought my xbox from home and we play on two TVs now. At least if you are playing with your team on one screen and the other team has their own screen, then it is tolerable. I personally prefer single player console games though.

From bonafidereviews.com:
Quote:

If the PS3 is delivered at $599.99 what does this mean for Sony? Historically gaming machines would have never sold for anything north of $299.99 (that was until the Xbox360 moved the line to 399.99 in winter of 2005). Just look at the complete failure of the 1990's powerhouse, the 3DO, at the relatively respectable price of $399.99 (roughly $449.99 inflation adjusted). With the PS3 now touting the largest price tag for any console in the history of gaming and higher then most mid-low end PC's at this point, does this spell disaster for the ailing hardware giant? Sony hasn't posted net gains in the past three years until 2005 when they posted a depressing $580 million dollar profit after posting loss's in the billions for the last three fiscal years.

PS3 production pricing at this point has been laid out to be anywhere from $850 - $956 per unit, meaning there will be a loss on each machine of approx $250 - $350 per console sold. If one million consoles sell in the first day of availability Sony will have wiped there entire fiscal gain for all of 2005 in under 24 hours.

Ailing stock prices, poor movie sales and a failing UMD (Sony PSP media) market, might add up to a low-cost buyout in Sony's future. I personally see this happening regardless of the Blu-ray market by 2014. I for one can just see the looks on Sony's main competitors faces at this time, all the gleaming in the world coming from One Microsoft way (the road both Nintendo HQ and MS HQ reside on) as this could turn out to be the largest upset in consumer electronics history.

All this added up, you have to ask yourself. Will the next Playstation you purchase post-PS3 run a Microsoft operating system and have backwards compatibility for PS1 PS2 PS3 Xbox and Xbox360? Putting your rabid love for Sony aside, this doesn't seem as far fetched as it once did, when the Sony name wasn't covered in enough red tape to fill the Grand Canyon.
