PS3 price revealed? - Page 6

A source for what, exactly? There have already been a couple of links pointing to the recent comments by a Sony vice president saying the price was $615, based on current yen-to-USD conversion rates. Sony's PR department has since come out with the usual "no price has been officially announced", but this comment came from a freakin' vice president. This guy is in the loop, whether he was authorized to say anything or not.

So there is no way the PS3 is coming to the US below $500, and $550 is more likely IMHO.

on another note i like console gaming over pc gaming i used to be a pc gamer i find the keyboard and mouse to unfriendly i mean really to me its rather hard to straff to the left while jumping up and crouching while switching to a gernade all in one smooth motion like i can on a console
You are in a huge minority. And I absolutely guarantee that, given two players of otherwise equal skill in a game but using the two different control sets, the one using the mouse+keyboard would totally own the one with the joypad. Seriously, I would bet real money; I would give odds. (Of course, all of that sissy auto-aiming in console shooters has to be turned off. With a mouse you can actually aim, no handicaps given to the person with the device that CAN'T accurately aim.)

I wouldn't even know how to execute your example on a joypad, actually. Strafing left requires the left joystick, no problem. But then to jump you need to hit a button with your right thumb; presumably crouching also needs the right thumb to hit a button...then how are we switching weapons to grenades... On a PC, this is easy: strafe left = A, jump = space, crouch = C, all three of which can be easily pressed at once. And to switch to a grenade (or any weapon) = scroll wheel to the weapon.

I'm not picking on you, but maybe you need some more experience with the mouse+keyboard combo. Because it really is the best thing out there.

i was refering to his source where he said it was gonna cost less not what the price was stated off 600 plus.. as for the keyboard mouse combo well i can do the same move using four fingers as opposed to 6 and to me its a lot more comfortable to hold a xbox controller then it is to sit over a mouse and keyboard.. to each their own.. and i wish there was a way for you to use a keyboard and mouse say on a 360 in ghost recon vs my controller oh and who uses auto aim anyway.. i rather shoot someone in the head then the chest anyday

Some company was selling adaptors that let you use USB keyboards and mice on an XBox. I would assume that eventually someone will get it working on an X360 as well.

It's just more difficult to have that kind of precise aim with a thumbstick. Which is why console games invented the lock-in game mechanic in the first place, it's completely unnecessary with a mouse. (Or any other pixel pointing device, e.g. a trackball or even the old Atari 5200 controller.)

i dont know about that.. the analog works in the same manner as a mouse ball does its all about setting up the sencetivity i find that the auto aim is useless in games such as ghost recon and rainbow six where head shots count and torso shots take longer to kill i think its really there to make it easier for those less experianced to play

Not really. An analog stick measures a vector (i.e. x & y coordinates) from the stick's rest position (center), with the distance from center usually indicating to the software how "fast" the camera should move, or you should move, or whatever you're controlling should move. This is why you sometimes have to calibrate analog sticks on PCs (you have to tell Windows what the X/Y of center on your controller is, then swirl the stick to define the maximum X/Y in every direction).

So in my experience, what this translates to in gameplay is that if you are turning really fast, i.e. the stick is far from center, you can't always "suddenly stop" because the stick has to move through a series of intermediate coordinates to get back to center. This can make the stick feel sluggish. On the flip side, it's sometimes hard to move the camera "just one pixel" unless you're very good at just nudging the stick barely off center for a split second. Finally, because the distance from center that a stick can go is fixed, you maximum turn rate is also fixed.

Now behavior is certainly going to very from game to game, and if there are sensitivity controls you can at least tune this behavior to better suit your own play style and/or abilities. But more precise control is going to equate to a lower range of X/Y values that the stick responds to, which also unfortunately means slower max turning rates.

Mice work completely differently, however. A mouse has no concept of "center", all it does is compute the vector (difference in position) from one mouse poll to another. If you barely move the mouse, it relates a small vector; and if you move the mouse a huge distance, it relates a huge vector. The software (both Windows and the game) then apply sensitivity settings to that vector to determine what direction and how far to move. Because of this a mouse control can stop game motion on a dime (simply stop moving the mouse and there are no more position deltas); and can move as slowly or quick are your hand can move small and large distances respectively.

I completely agree with Vulcan. I'm a big halo 2 and soldier of fortune 2 fan (one of the fastest paced pc fps), there's no way an xbox controller can come close to matching both the speed and precision of a mouse. Food for thought, on a pc fps with average-to-fast sensitivity, you'll never feel the need for a quick turn around button like on some console games

Quick turn around button? Eh? I have NEVER played a game with that.. lol.

And I take off auto aim whenever I play a console game, it messes me up.
