You do have to pay to play WoW and that is why I do NOT play it. The whole game soley based online thopugh and that is why you buy it. Halo 2 on the other hand has a single player mode and online as an OPTION. No one bought Halo2 to play the single player because the single player is rather foul and boring. If I have a cable connect that I pay $100 a month for that has massive bandwidth why can't I host my own server where people can come and play Halo2 for free. I am paying $100 a month but that is besides the point because I use the bandwidth for much more than gaming so I don't care letting people play on my server that I am paying for. Now if I had that option without having to do all kinds of crap to make it work I would buy an xbox but this is not the case.

I understand how the world works just fine Vulcan being the capitalist pig I am I will gladly take a dollar from anyone willing to give me one. I just won't buy an xbox because there is a fee to play. So now me and thousands of other people took our money elsewhere and M$ didn't get one red dime. Now if it were free I would have owned an xbox long ago and probably a ton of games. That is how the world works and that is why I won't buy an xbox or any gaming device from MS. When Halo2 is ported to the pc I will be playing for free just like I play halo 1 for free now. As far as making a pc/console that is what the xbox is. There is no better computer that you can buy for $149 dollars and if you stick a modchip in there you can unlock the computer aspect of the box and use it for a whole host of things. When xboxes go down to $99 dollars I will picj up a used one on the internet for probably $60-$75 and then I will mod it and fill the 160gig harddrive I will put in it with all the games I can handle.
I was never a big xbox fan, I never planned on buying one, the only reason I ever had a PS2 is because my wife brought one into the marriage I started to like the xbox when I was deployed for a few reasons. We didn't really have room for full computers, and laptops suck for gaming. The PS2's that we had wouldn't hold up to the environment, the dust, sand and 120 F+ temps, in fact the computers didn't really hold up that well either, I'd like to see someone build a rig for gaming that will run 24/7 in 110f ambient temps(in tents with no A/C). I'm surprised my laptop worked as well as it did, but thats a discussion for another thread. 16 player halo matches are a great way to keep morale up. I'm really not sure where I am going with this, but I do have to give microsoft credit for building a machine that held up to the abuse we put them through. The xbox isn't for everyone, and Microsoft is a company that is trying to make money, the xbox does that for them.

Holy cow, $100 a month?!? You're a more dedicated net user than me!

Don't get me wrong, I agree. I wish we could always host our own private games. But even PC games are getting away from letting you do that all of the time; e.g. Blizzard has required Battle.Net for a heckuva long time now, way back to the Starcraft days.

When you do get your $99 XBox, look into the Kai tunneling software. It should let you host LAN-based Halo games. I can't vouch for the performance, I havent used the software myself. I got bored with multiplayer shooters a long time ago.

some good points by all!

Just a quick thought?
I heard/read some place that nivida had in production the new software/hardware for the new xbox2.
I mean a joint microsoft/nvidia project, which in turn gave nvidia a lead to produce the new set of vid cards running on the all singing 64bit OS?

And now heres the question for microsoft.. Should we actually put a plot into our games?! Besides, what will they do with 15 gis or 30 gigs... I say Nintendo controls the future of games.. Going for more portable systems which will inevitably control the market.. Give it time. Except for Computers because computers are.. computers lol.

I've actually heard nVidia and Sony are real buddy buddy now for the PlayStation 3, ATi is developing the chip for Xbox2 (R520, a copy of the R500 due out Q2 this year). All consoles are crap... I just hate 'em

Well. this is just great....

xbox is teaming up with ATi. and making an xbox...

WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO?!

Well. I guess is PS3 all the way for me. I mean, I've been against ATi as long as I could remember the word "Graphics Card" and now my favorite system in the entire world is going to the CANADIAN graphics card company... EVER.... (not like there were any other). But i'm mad ad slightly sad.
