Conceptual Question

Okay, so, I don't have any friends that are knowledgeable about this stuff, and I am teh suck at teh goolge.

So. Here is my question.

You have the FSB of say 1000MHz Hyper Transport (2000 MT/s). Now, lets say I have DDR400 (200mhz...) ram in there. How much of the FSB will this use if I have say, two dimms of 1gb each. I would presume 800mhz. My thought is, then, why not simply get two sticks of DDR500 (250mhz...), thus using that 1000mhz (2000mt/s) to its utmost?

Then, I got to thinking, does my PCI sound card also use part of this bus, thus making it silly to go up to DDR500, as some of the bus is needed for it?

Additionally, and more importantly, what about the same thing with the PCI-e bus? If I am planning on having two graphics cards in there, how much of the bus is that going to take up?

What I want to do is just get ram that is made to function at a rated clock speed of say, 433, 466, or 500 (so I don't have to worry about stability as much?) and just OC the FSB of my MB to whatever that rate is. I know its not much of a boost, but it will take a 3800+ (2.0) to either 2.33ghz or 2.5ghz. Not bad at all. However, if it is pointless to OC the ram so much when Ill have to PCI-e g-cards needing that bandwidth too, what am I to do?

I'm not looking to OC very much, but I want to get these conceptual things out of the way.

Also, what in the heck does MT/s stand for?

The PCIe can be locked in the nForce MBs and some others so that may or may not actually be a concern depending on the MB!
Yes per say... DDR500 and an HTT of 250 will improve the systems performance over the default 200MHz
The RAMs multiplyer however, will require a lower multiplyer of 4x to keep the RAMs speed @ 1000MHz on a 939 MB! RAM needs to run in the 800-100 range so @ 200MHz the default multiplyer is 5x or 5x200=100 to help clarify the above statment.

okay, what I am getting at is, is it pointless to OC my FSB past 200 if the PCIe bus shares in that same HTT (amount, value?)...

Is it really much of a boost to have an FSB of 1000mhz while having two dimms of ram going at 500mhz each (totalling 1000mhz), and then everything else going?

Should I just go for the DDR400 stuff and have better CAS latencies...

Here is what I want to do.

Get an Asus Deluxe SLIx16, you know the deally, get an Athlon3800+, 2gb of ram, and a 7900GTX or GT. I want to run them at optimal, yet stable spec. Rather, I want to do very little, except get my bang for my buck out of the ram and proc.

If that makes sense, I don't know. Not good at communicating with others.

So, tell me if this is sound. that Asus MB + 3800 + 2gb (2x1gb OCZ Platinum) DDR500 ram. OC the FSB to 250, and that is it.

Does that make sense? That way I don't have to worry about ram stability at all, and get that 2.0ghz 3800+ up to 2.5 Ghz. Anyway, that is my plan.

What do you think?
