Dual Core Build For cheap...need help - Page 3

Thanks again for responses..I will go for the upgraded processor; however I'm a little confused the X3440 Lynnfield is listed as server processor and is 234.99 with a 2.53 clock speed...but the Intel Core i5-760 Lynnfield 2.8GHz is only $209.99...which is better?

Also if I'm reading correctly the Board linked the EVGA isnt overclockable and is a MicroAtx..always thought full size ATX was better and I would like for the board to be overclockable.

I'm gessing I should just spring for $224.99 for bucks and get a 1GB 460GTX..prolly worth it.

EVGA P55V 120-LF-E651-TR LGA 1156 Intel P55

I was suggesting the P55V as a cheap board to get you started. If you're comfortable spending more money, then most certainly do so. That Asus board would be a better choice.

And just get the regular i5 750. The server processor isn't worth the extra cash.

Also, that card you listed is a GTX465 1GB. Still a great card, but the 460 1GB beats it in stock form, because they are clocked higher from the factory. Put a little overclock on that 465 and it will beat the 460 1GB. Actually clock for clock, the 465 is faster, but it does use a little more power and runs a little hotter.

Again, you really need to upgrade your power supply. Make some room in the budget.

Way more than you need. You'd be fine with a solid 500-600W, and that's even pushing it. Really you could get away with a quality 400-450W unit, but I'd say go ahead and get a 500-550W, as they're not much more. Go ahead with the 650-750W if you think you might want to go SLI/Crossfire in the future.

You want to look at the Antec TP-New series, Corsair TX (HX is better but pricey), Seasonic, Enermax, XFX, etc.

Thank you for all the advice. I bit the bullet today and made the purchase here is what I ended up with.

Mobo Combo....thay had a deal today at New Egg

EVGA P55 SLI 132-LF-E655-KR LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX
&
Intel Core i5 760 Lynnfield 2.8ghz LGA1156 95 quad core

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.493864

Memory I got confused on the Board stats said it will go 2600mhz +
but I opted for DDR3 2000 (pc3 16000)....Please tell me I didnt screw this up..here is what I got

Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 4GB (2x2gb)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820226127

Video Card
Gigabyte GV-N460OC-1GB GeForce GTX 460

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125333

So my cheap build is at $700 now and I havent grabbed a PSU yet. All this look good together or did I make a major mistake? Also had to throw in a SATA CD/Dvd drive because I noticed the MObo didnt have a pata hook up which is what I have with my old stuff besides the Raptors.
