X1800GTO or 7900GT ? - Page 2

Dude, its all about price for you obviously... The X1800GTO wins here... but the stock performance of the 7900GT is greater than the x1800GTOs by leaps and bounds. The only way you can make the GTO tie, and I mean only TIE, the 7900GT is if you unlock, and overclock to ABOVE x1800xt speeds (you'll need x1800xt pe speeds to beat 7900GT)... but then again which one is more fun to mod and overclock.... , I dunno given the choice I'd buy the X1800GTO for the adventure... the 7900GT is a hohum die shrink of the 7800GTX with a few efficiency mods.

The 7900GT was beat by the x1800xt 256mb, thank you very much.

If you are able to unlock the x1800gto to an xl and reach xt speeds, go for it.

You can do a volt-mod with nothing but a pencil or some conductive paint and take that 7900GT up to crazy speeds.

Edit: And the 7900GT was beat by the X1800XT 512MB. The 256MB version sucks.
The 7900GT. Paudovli here told me its cheaper , runs cooler , doesnt need a huge silly two slot cooler unless it eats up power like theres no tommorow meaning more heat also it makes less heat and is already some of them factory-overclocked. Also its underneath nvidia's best card and the ATI one is second less best compared to the x1900xt and xtx

there is NO difference between the 512 and the 256 except the memory size so how does it suck??? My X1800XL is a 256 mb card and i overclocked to speed sof 700/725 with some upped voltage and scored 10303 in 3d05. if the X1800gto can unlock and clock up like all the X1800XL's then is a good deal

and dualcore the X1800gto has a small single slot cooler

Go look at my 7900GT vmod thread. You will clearly choose the 7900GT after you read it. It pwns the 1800 hard.
It runs cool, it's compact, and it's FASTTTTTTTT

http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/h...0_xt_256_mb/9/

Benchmarks to the rescue. I know the site is in German but you can still read the charts. The 256 mb edition of the x1800xt is slightly less powerful but is still on heck of a powerful card and as those benchmarks show it is about even with the 7800gtx most of the time and the 7900gt is only a tiny bit more powerful than the 7800gtx. So all in all the 7900gt and the x1800xt 256 are comparable.
