My current build is as follows
CPU e6550 OCed to 3.5
Tuniq tower
MOBO Asus p5b deluxe
Ram 2gb ddr2 crucial the yellow ones don't remember speed
GPU 8800gts
HDD 150gb WD sata
case is junk
P/S BFG 1k
DVD burner is asus sata

What i want to do is build an I7 system for about 500, any advice or should i just build an AMD system with the six core CPU

any advice would help as i have kind of fallen off since i built this system a few years ago

you think that would be better than a I5 or the cheap I7?

I would go with a AMD CPU (955) for gaming. An i5 is okay too.
Make sure to get enough ram for your virtual machines.

So you're trying to get an i7 build with $500?? Yea... not going to happen. The only thing you can salvage from your old rig would be the PSU, HD (assuming it's a SATA HD), and the case. I don't think the Tuniq Tower works with the AM3 socket. So here is a build:
PSU:

Tower:

Harddrive:

AMD 1055t $197.99

Asus M4A77TD AM3 $79.99

Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 1600 $84.99

Hyper 212+ $39.99

XFX GTS 250 $100

The GPU is from the FS section here on OCN because it's way cheaper.
