Overclocking the 6600-VTD256 vs. 6600GT

Help! Becasue of $ and "AGP", I am thinking I can get an NX6600-VTD 256MB and overclock it, and at least get a little close to an unclocked 6600GT 128MB. Am I missing something here or is this reasonable? Kinda new to this whole graphics card world so be gentle.

The 6600GT will be your better choice. There is realy no comparison. Try and get the 128MB and not the 256.

So...is it safe to buy a used 6600gt or is that just asking for trouble? Is there some way to diagnose if it has been abused, i.e. over-overclocked, burned, singed, etc.???

non-GT 6600s are very clockable

^ Yes, but so are 6600GTs, and DDR can't get near what DDR3 can.

I would advise just saving up a bit more money and getting the 6600GT. I had one before I got my 7600GT, I pushed it as far as 575/1150 without artifacts. It's a great card, and would be the better choice.

What budget are we talking about here?

Would this refurb be an option?
REFURBISHED: ASUS N6600 GT/TD/128M Geforce 6600GT 128MB 128-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - OEM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16814121195R

Used (say e-Bay) comes with its own set of risks, and it all comes down to the reliability of the seller. I picked my ATI X850Pro AGP up from eBay about half a year ago for like $150.. and it is good (although not the worlds *best* overclocker). So you can have good deals.

Good luck

Maybe look into this 6800:

OR
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...-128TV&cat=VCD

Owns both the 6600GT and 6600 by a significant margin.

I just checked my origianl thread I realized I forgot to mention I MUST have VIVO capability for video editing. With this in mind, what do you think and should I consider an ATI All-in-Wonder???

I'd like to stay below$175. USD

Man, how did you get 575/1150 out of your 6600gt? I have msi k8n platinum sli with 1gb corsair twinx 4000pro ddr amd 3200+ 64bit and 2 6600gt tdh pciE in sli and i start gettin artifacts over 545/1070. What's your secret? Cooling's not a prob. have zalman pure cU gpu fan and ram heatsinks and 3 120mm casefans. gpu never above 75C
