GTX 460 / 560 / 560 Ti aftermarket (air) cooler (non-reference) list - Page 15

Just a small update on my modding - I ditched the stock heatsink I was using with the accelero twin turbo pro fans. I basically gave up and bought a Dremel for the job (by the way, safety goggles are not optional when using this thing ).

I'm not going to post pictures because this is not a mod I would recommend to any sane person. It involved freeing a heatpipe from all the fins by cutting them, bending out the heatpipe a bit, then cutting more fins for the DVI connector.

The actual mounting on the card was problematic too, cos the Gainward techs for some reason chose to fit their spacers directly to the stock heatsink and they cannot be removed. They also do not match any spacers I had laying around so I had to mount the card without them. This means extreme caution when tightening the screws as to not bend or break anything but still leaving them tight enough to keep the heatsink fixed in the right place.

It takes a long time to get up there, but it does get to 89C load on my first run (not broken in the AS5 yet). Oh I was able to fit 6 of the 8 ram heatsinks too, the last two are obstructed by the main heatpipe assembly.

Overall. Accelero Twin Turbo Pro. Not recommended.

EDIT: I seem to be getting stable max temps of arount 85-87C after a few cycles. However, the fan regulator is very conservative and doesn't max out the fan speed until that temperature level. That makes it really hard to tell what the actual efficiency of the setup is.

Kudos 2x

But that rules out another affordable cooler

I'm starting to think that AMD opteron stock cooler (good one, with 4 heatpipes and temp regulated fan) could be fitted on somehow...it surely would be sufficient.

Thanks mark_thaddeus for confirming that the Spitfire does work on the Gainward, I'll get it next month with a Noctua fan.
I'll try to post some pics of the setup (dont have a camera, the phone's camera will have to do)

My case is pretty tight (Lian li PC A05N) but as it's upside down I think it'll fit, with the Spitfire going towards the top.

(sry if I made any english mistakes ...)

So is there a definitive answer in terms of an aftermarket replacement cooling for folks with a pair of the Palit GTX460 1GB Sonic Platinums in an SLI config?

The stock fans wail like a banshee when cranked and it's driving me crazy!

Ok I just finished installing the Spitfire on my Gainward GTX 460GS 1GB, I confirm that it's a straight fit with no custom job required.

The only issue I had is with the size of my case ... I'll post some pics tomorrow when I find a way to transfer them from the phone to the computer.

CRAPPY PICS INSIDE

I managed to take some pictures during the install with my phone.

The new VS the original !

The case is a Lian Li A05N

Had to remove the top cover in order to put it in :

No Noctua 14cm Fan available @ the shop, so I temporarily grabbed a cheap 12cm instead

Notice the 5 mm ish clearance between the top of the Spitfire and the actual "top" of the case

I managed to put the sound card back in (was quite difficult)

I'm gonna get a fully modular PSU next month, cable management isn't great right now ...

The mounting part was actually quite easy, I highly recommend this product to anyone who want's a silent PC with this graphic card.

I played BF BC2 for over an hour (1920*1200@High, not custom so I'm not sure about AA) and the temp never got over 50°C

With Furmark I managed to max it @ 66°C with 1920*1200 AA16X, the case was already closed, but it was not at it's regular emplacement which will be much hotter, I'll do the tests tonight

Again, I hope I didnt make any english mistakes

The only answer right now would be a v4000 on the first card (top) and then a spitfire on the second (bottom). No mods needed for both installations. Though I would get some heatsinks for the vrm's on both cards.

You could add the Scythe Setsugen 2 (http://www.overclock.net/hardware-ne...-setsugen.html) to your list.

Deepcool has also a two interesting coolers : V6000 and V4200.
