I've really got to agree with these guys those temps are very high... i'm also suprised that your card doesnt reduce it's speed when it hits high temps (i'm using the same card)

i know on mine the temps climb heavily until it hits 98C then stays there by reducing the speed although that is only a problem w/ furmark etc.
The max ive hit with games is around the 80C mark and thats with the joke of a stock heatsink and some 120mm fans tied onto it so i'd definately side toward their sugestion of checking the fans and TIM... something just isnt working as intended there... well unless you've installed your card in an oven

Just ordered my Musashi so hopefully by this time tomorrow all will be good in the world again Hopefully these mods wont be too difficult to do to it.
Just finished running my series of tests on the current setup.

Unfortunately I couldnt find anything to measure the room temp so I'm doing it the very scientific way of opening the window til it feels the same temp

Included cpu temps as ive got a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 pulling hot air up from the gtx 460, which i think my current setup is actually helping with as the 120mm fans are blowing a fair bit of air over and around the card

Anyway ill update as i get them ran on the new setup tomorrow

Well my palit is gone for rma for good...
I changed v4000s fan with 2Enermax magma pretty nice and sillent ones running both at 2450rpm no diffrenece i did get new thermal 2! 98c-101c=crash after 2 min.
Switched back to stock cooler even worse, today the seller cheched it at they told me its a faulty one so sending back to palit then send me a new one in couple of weeks meanwhile i got MSI 460 Hawk and i have to say i am amazed.

It's good that you had it RMA'd! Hawks are sweet, though I've heard that the fan tends to be a little noisy when above 85%, is this true?

I have to agree above 90% is loud but not that much if i turn my side panel 2x120mm ones yes but not that much compared to the palit one(stock).
But i have to say i am 1 day with the hawk and i am amazed cant reach over 60c althought my room is arround 22c.
I am working on overclocking this beast and serching for a water cooling(full system) solution for the near future.

So it turned up at 8am ( love ebuyer next day ) and finally finished testing it out... all in all it seems like its going pretty well now if only i hadnt been a dumb... and remembered to buy some mx-3 too cant say i'm feeling daring enough to use the AS5 i've got spare on it today... maybe when i get a new card..... well anyway here are the results

Scythe Musashi (full fan speed ) & Stock Settings

GPU
IDLE:30C
Folding: 57C
Furmark:78C

CPU (GPU Idle)
IDLE:21C
P95 In-Place:44C

Folding + p95 In-Place
GPU:57C
CPU:47C

Scythe Musashi ( full fan speed ) & 800-1600-2000

GPU
IDLE:32C
Folding: 59C
Furmark:92C

CPU (GPU Idle)
IDLE:23C
P95 In-Place:45C

Folding + p95 In-Place
GPU:59C
CPU:48C

On a related note i did come up with a system yesterday to check the temperature.... one of those strips that changes colour depending on how hot it is........... accurate i know but according to them it was between 21 and 22C both last night and this morning, taken at the front intake fan

All in all i'm pretty happy with those numbers... wish i had a way to mesure the VRM's tho... curious how well the heatsinks that came with it work... they do seem pretty poor but who knows

Just got to sort out my problem of now being able to chuck things away now... 'hmmm spare heatsinks... what can i do with them... I know! i'll stick them to random heatsinks on the MB!' cooled the NB down by 2C atleast ^^

Juust need to set up shop folding again... i'm pretty happy boosting my numbers from 13k PPD to 14.5 PPD now

I've got to say that hawk sure sounds fun xD Might try to steal.. um borrow my mates while he's out of town next week

Edit: I just wanted to say thanks for the help and also thanks for this thread... i was lost until i found this

Also just ran a few tests on my usual setup... ie all case fans 5V modded, Q-fan enabled ( 4V til 40C raising to 12V @ 70C ) and turned the Musashi fans down so they are lower than my silent pro

@stock
GPU:
furmark 84C

CPU:
p95 in-place 52C

Both:
CPU 57C
GPU 81C

Nice to see the AC7 freezer rev 2 really cools down the graphics card......

THIS TIME NEXT WEEK!

cutting 2 120mm holes at the top and bottom of my case for air flow!.... i wish
it'd be too much hassle unfortuately

Anyway thanks again for the help

Do these after market coolers also fit the Asus 768mb card? Mine whines horribly at all speeds. It's a quiet noise from the fan but it is two-tone and high pitched, enough to drive me mad.

yeah mate, see the first post, the OP has two categories for coolers that fit the 768mb and 1gb versions.

It's just that the first post talks about Palit and Gainward as non-reference designs, I thought maybe the Asus was a reference design?

Oh sorry, missed that bit in your post... yeah no this is only for non-reference cards which have a different bolt pattern - similar to 8xxx & 9xxx series cards - to standard ones
