stonebear since your card is a reference model any card to date that says its compatible to gtx460 will fit your card. To name a few that should fit your card:

1) Gelid Icy Vision
2) Zalman VF3000
3) Arctic Cooler Accelero Extreme (not sure if it's the turbo or plus model)

All 3 listed above have been tested to fit reference models to date.

Hey guys.
I have 2x palit/gainward gtx 460 1gb cards in sli, they're on a 780i sli board in a fractal design define r2. i also have nh-d14 cooling my cpu.

I've been wondering about getting aftermarket cooler for these things since I got them.
Now I found this thread with awesome information, thank you for that.

Im considering about buying a deepcool v4000 and a spitfire.
I just can't get my head around how I would setup these in my case.
card1 in slot1 with v4000 & card2 in slot3 with spitfire
or
card2 in slot1 with spitfire & card1 in slot2 with v4000

I tried playing with google sketchup but that didn't workout so well, darn my head explodes thinking about this.
I dont wanna go and buy the coolers and then find out that I cant mount them anyway reasonably.
The are 2 things I worry the most.
#1 If I mount the spitfire on top card in slot1 facing downwards, is there enough room below the spitfires fins for the v4000 on the second card in slot2.
and
#2 If I mount the spitfire on bottom card in slot3 facing up towards the noctua D14 is there be enough room for the spitfire since D14 is huugggee and also #1 applies on this also.

Does any1 follow on what I'm trying to explain ?

The top card should have the spitfire since it's normally the card that can't get enough air to cool it properly (tight space between the PCI slots compared to the bottom one)and the bottom card should get the v4000 since it normally has more space for airflow.

If I'm not mistaken you can either install the spitfire either way (with the fins in either the up or down position) depending on your case.

Now of course you have to resaerch the dimensions for each cooling solution and compare it to your case dimensions as well when the card is installed. That should help you figure out if it will all fit in your case.

Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it greatly.
Yes, I concur with the upper card is hotter comment. But in my current scenario, there is 1 slot between my cards, since I have a 3way sli motherboard, also because my sli bridge isn't the flexible model, I have a long non-flexible sli bridge which came with my motherboard.
So the temperatures on the upper and lower card are almost the same, currently they idle at 30/31*C and in Furmark load fan
set to 100% they get to 85/83*C when oc'ed 840/2100. In F1 2010 max setting's 1080p I get temps around 55/55-60/60 while fan is 54% (set to auto with my custom profile).

So the temperatures are not the biggest reasons for me to consider changing to aftermarket cooling solution's, it is the noise levels which are driving me to the decision to change cooling.

I read the thread here about Spitfire been installed on a gtx480, and based on the pictures which we're in the thread suggest me that there could be enough space underneath the spitfire for another card with the V4000.
And so I think I will be going with the scenario in which I would install the spitfire on lower card facing up, and the V4000 on the upper card.
Hmm. I checked couple installation pictures of the spitfire, I found a review where the spitfire was installed on a 5850 to a P6T Deluxe in the lower pci-e x16 slot. By the looks of the pic here, lowest pics and the left one
It would look like it's only a matter of mm that it would fit in my setup, you can find a pic of my setup here
But by the time I get it, and if it wont fit, I could always swap back to noctua u12p cooler which I have lying around here as a backup.

Damn, maybe I should just grab my pc, go to Helsinki and visit Jimm'sPC or Verkkokauppa.com (popular finnish hardware shops) and try to fit it in

This is weird, my Asus 768mb's fan made an annoying noise so I took it and the guard casing thing off and strapped a 92mm acoustic-fan (slow) to the heat-sink, it is now silent. I tested it straight away with Furmark and stopped the test at 80c, I just tested again now and it didn't go over 58c, I gave it 20 mins on stability test 1920x1080, 4x AA. I guess the MX-3 has cured?

It is over-clocked to 860 core and 986 memory with no extra volts, if that makes a difference to the temp I dunno. I didn't see any artifacts so I assume it is OK and might go further.

the heatsink is a core-contact, maybe that helps a bit too. Pretty happy I took that whiny fan off now.

Hi guys,

I just bought a Palit gtx460 1gb ,and the fan is LOUD. None of the rams has heat sink on it .wth. I accidentally broke one of the of the fan blade .Now I cant return the product. Since I read that this card has the same holes as the g92 cards . I understand that a lot of coolers don't fit this card because of the second DVI slot. will this zalman fit my card?

not exactly sure but if it's the right fitting i'd give it a go... can't see a reason why not too if the fitting is correct and dont know of anything that'll clash with it..

at a complete guess i say it will probally fit..

you never know you might have just found us a new cooling system for these cards

The VF900 does fit but the problem with that is it won't let air pass over your vrm's. It's sole purpose is to focus the air it blows for the gpu chip itself. You'll probably get residual air but not enough to cool down the vrm's.
