PS: will the new accelero Extreme III fit?

The best way is for you to also measure the distance from the mounting holes to the edge of the DVI housing. If it is more than 60mm any of the coolers listed on page 1 will fit your GTX580. I would recommend the Gelid Icy Vision since it was initially developed for the GTX480.

Can you measure the distance between the DVI housing to the nearest mounting hole on your GTX 465? Once we have this we can definitely recommend the best solution for you.
Using the cooler you mentioned as a reference point to figure out the measurement of your card we can look at the drawing below. Slide 2 shows the distance from edge of fins to edge of mounting plate at 60mm. Measuring the edge of that mounting plate to the center of the screw comes out to about 5mm. It seems that the cooler has a distance of about 65mm from the edge of the fins to the center of the nearest mounting hole. This obviously means that your card has space for less than that.
height_restriction_drawing_Accelero_Twin_Turbo_Pro.pdf 339k .pdf file
We'd definitely need a measurement from you to give you the best possible choice.

Im a little confused at your response. The reason the cooler didnt fit was because of the mounting bracket. The Artic is 53? Mm apart while this galaxy is 60mm apart

Hey General121!

Let me clarify my statement!

I assumed that the AC Twin Turbo Pro didn't fit was because of the clearance from the mounting hole to the DVI housing of your GPU. Hence my response above. Please note that the dimensions I gave are based on the drawings, which give us an overall idea of what clearance we need in order for a cooler to fit your specific needs. biggrin.gif

As you just mentioned, the reason it doesn't fit is because of the mounting bracket. Very different reason why that cooler did not fit on your card.

So now the question is, what are the dimensions of your mounting hole? The GTX 460/560 is at 53.2mm X 53.2mm. Would the AC TwinTurbo Pro fit (as in, have enough clearance for the cooler to mount with hitting the DVI bracket) if you had the correct mounting bracket / adapter?

I think so. Currently my friend has it, since he knows how to install it, and I dont, so I will ask him. It may take a day or two for him to get back to me, hes pretty busy. I know at least in terms of width I think it is 60mm apart. Thanks for the help so far by the way!

Hi!

I had to register here now that I had to change the cooler on my Palit GTX 460 Sonic 1GB.

So, I was blowing out dust with my air compressor and I accidentally put my finger into the spinning fan on the GPU. Three blades broke and well... I searched the subject on google and found this thread and I bought the Scythe Setsugen 2 because I found out that it could be possible that it would fit on my non-reference Palit.

Well there you have it! Proof that Setsugen 2 fits, and does fit like a glove! Just to mention that the GTX 460's core is bigger than the base on Setsugen, so I put paste on the Setsugen instead of the core itself. Maybe a little tight fit with the PCI-e 6-pin power connectors, but other than that, there's nothing bad about it. I also added the memory and VRM* heatsinks because there was so many of those tiny aluminium heatsinks.

EDIT:
I had to move the memory sinks a bit outward in the top row that the mounting plate would fit, still better than nothing.
* or at least I though that they were the VRM components.

I have run it on the Sonic Platinum's clock speeds (700 / 1400 / 1800 -> 800 / 1600 / 2000) for a long time even before the fan broke on the original cooler

Temperatures

Original cooler, OC (there was no real difference here between the stock and OC)

Idle: 40c - 50c

Load: 74c - 78c

Fan: somewhere around 2500 RPM, ear shattering whine

Scythe Setsugen 2

Idle: 30c - 40c

Load: 66c - 68c

Fan: 1400 RPM and you can't hear it over the other system's noise. (Antec 1200 with stock fans, they aren't silent even in the lowest settings)

Thanks!

He said that it might fir with some dremel work but returning it and finding a new cooler that fits would be easy

You mean from where I bought it? I bought it from Jimm's PC Store (Finnish online store) for 39,90 euros. I ordered it on monday evening and they sent it on tuesday and I received it on wednesday, luckily they had over 25 of these in stock so I didn't have to wait any longer.

Good luck with replacing the cooler! If you get another kind of GPU cooler don't forget to give us an update so we can add you in to the list of contributors!
