XP 2500 Barton Core - Problems w/ OC

post #1 of 14
Thread Starter
Default vcore = 1.65
Default FSB = 333
Default speed = 1.83 ghz
Default multiplier = 11.0 x 166

Now with my old video card which was a AIW 9800 Pro, I could run stable with:

vcore = 1.75
FSB = 400
Speed = 2.2ghz
Multiplier = 11.0 x 200

Since I bought an nvidia XFX 7800 GS, I can only run the default values, and not a single bit more stable....????

Granted the 7800 GS card sucks more power, but I I have a 500 watt PSU, and it should be enough, since I only power 2 cd roms, the mother board, the hard drive, the sound card, and the video card...

So why, am I unable to acheive any OC whatsoever?

well if your agp/pci does not lock the new card may not like the higher frequencys off the oc sense moving up the fbs would up the bus also on the pci/agp

It's hard to understand what you mean.. You are saying OCing the FSB is conflicting with the agp socket? So what can I do to remedy the situation?

most mobos nowdays have locked pci / agp frequencies. Google your mobo and see if it has and reviews and most reviews will tell you if the pci or sgp frequency is locked. If it ist it can really cause some probs unless you lock it in the bios.

Via chipsets in those days did not lock, some of the newer ones do but not many. Abit An7 would work and you should be able to get one at a good price.
I have a 2500+barton in a An7 @2.55ghz stable folding 24/7 for the last 6 months with no problems.

Ok, I went into the bios and saw a few options for the AGP interface.
Disabling the AGP read synchronization solved the problem, and I am now running the xp2500 @ xp3200.

Disable any speed "Spectrum" settings, they are of no value and cause complications. Furthermor, disable any peripherials in the BIOS you don't use like COM and Serial ports.
If available, up the chip set voltage a notch as necessary.
