Took this screen shot just now, wondering if my 280 rad can handle the load, however completely stable so I figure run it till it catches fire. Granted the room with all my PC's is about 10 degrees hotter than the rest of the house. Currently at 75 degrees F.

Well, before I bought a good cooler, I had my 2500K OCed at 4.1GHz with the stock cooler and it ran at 75-77C for about 2.5 months without any issues! If its stable, I say run with it!

EDIT: Just realized you have a 980X, so the thermal thresholds are different (I thought you were running a 2600K, sorry), so actually, I'm not sure, I would ask Awesome, he has more experiance with the first gen i7s than I do (as I have none redface.gif)

That screen shot is from my folding 2600k, the 980X is my main rig that only fold on when I'm not using it for other things. The 2600k folds 24/7 on linux. I know the 2600k probably has more horsepower than my 980X but I refuse to give it up as my main rig, just too pretty with all the water cooling and 3way SLI.

Note: I turned the A/C on so that dropped the temps by about 10 degree's

70+ degrees is a bit high. I think the highest recommended temp from Intel is 76 degrees. My temps never reached about 65 degrees and even when they break 60 degrees I get worried about long term running. But that's just me being paranoid. I think 70+ will probably lead to faster chip degradation but at the same time, the chip will probably still outlast the rig.

I am going to pick up that Dell tower this weekend and take a look at it. I wonder if SolidWorks will run ok on a 9800GT from my back up computer? My back up dell tower ran SolidWorks ok (it would freeze a lot in large assemblies though) in the past with the core 2 quad and the 9800GT. SO I figure it should it run ok with the OC 2600K and the 9800GT. If not then I guess I am upgrading to a different GPU (just not a $700 580 3GB).

I don't think I can push my voltages any lower and maintain stability however I may have to see what I can do after the foldathon. Going to tweak another client to see if I can SMP and GPU going on it. Wish I could use all my clients for the team, total for all three systems is around 80k PPD. However the hugeadv should be good on the 2600k. Funny part is that I seem to be on a linux kick now, loaded Mint on my Netbook and have been using the linux machines more than my Win7 system.

Anyone have any idea why my PPD is so low and my TPF is so high now? The GPU is a GTX 580 at 925mhz. I am only averaging about 7K PPD with almost every work unit and my TPF is at almost 3 Minutes. Before when I would fold my GPU my TPF was usually around 1 min and 19K PPD.

Which WU's is it pulling? My GTX 470's average around 15k PPD with a TPF 1:13. Currently folding P6802 WU's.

What kind of temps are you looking at under full load, could the card be throttling down for any reason?
