I just share my folding at home directory between the VM do windows so that HFM running in Windows can track the VM's folding. Couldbsetup a samba share as well, however I found it to be much easier to just tell the VM to share the directory so that HFM could see it.

This was my thought, I was thinking I could keep the 2600k and get an H100 to cool it. I'll post my build later, I think its going to be pretty sweet!

I couldn't get HFM to work either, so what I ended up doing is setting up Dropbox both in the VM and on Win7. Then you can make a link in Ubuntu for each of the three files HFM needs (I don't remember of the top of my head what they are). Put these links in your Dropbox folder (made another folder under the public folder for each of my cliens), then in HFM, you can just choose the folder where you saved the links in Ubuntu (as these folders will be available on any computer you install Dropbox on.

The one downfall to this is that Dropbox does cut down PPD when it is run in Win7 (it eats a lot of resources in Win7, no so much in Ubuntu as far as I can tell), it added about 30 seconds to my TPF on a 6903. I resolved this by setting up my HFM from another system on my network and running Dropbox on that as I didn't care if the TPF was effected on that system (its an old Gateway that only nets like 700PPD anyway). This was just my solution, I'm sure there are others out there.

Edit: I just thought of something else. in Ubuntu, make sure you share your fah folder, then in HFM, when you try to make the new client, click on browse. You should be able to see the VM under your network places and select the fah folder there, but like I said, I had trouble with this. If you can do this, it would save you on your TPF, like I said, Dropbox can be a system hog.

I had it happen once on my 2600K running a Ubuntu VM. I just restarted the VM and it never popped up again.

Yeah, that sucks, I've had that happen a few times. I would say to keep your set up to try to pull the bigadv WUs and see if you can get another shot, but from what I've seen lately, the bigadv WUs have seems somewhat rare for the last few weeks.

EDIT:
Also, I wanted to get your guys' opinion. I've already got some of my new build, but I wanted to know what you all thought for the rest of it.

Here's what I have so far:
Case: Corsair Carbide Series 500R (White)
Motherboard: Asus P8Z68-V/GEN3
Processor: Intel Core i7 2600K
Memory: Corsair Vengeance Series 16GB DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800)
PSU: OCZ ZX Series 850 Watt ATX Modular Power Supply
Case fans: Cooler Master R4-C2R-20AC-GP Case Fan - 120mm (I don't know how many of those I have, but I know I have quite a few laying around)
Storage HDD: 2 Hitachi 0F10383 Deskstar 7K1000.C in RAID 0 (from my SigRig)

What I'm looking at to complete the build:
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100 Hydro Water Cooling System
SSD: OCZ AGT3-25SAT3-60G Agility 3 Series Solid State Drive - 60GB, 2.5" SATA III, 6Gbps
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS524-98 Internal DVD Writer

Also, what fans would you guys recommend to use on the H100? Are the stock fans on those any good, or should I upgrade them to something else?

Thanks for your input!!

A friend of mine has the H60 and I think they all come with the same fans? anyway... they are nice and quiet and yet still move a decent amount of air. maybe get two more for the rad and do push/pull? but the stock ones should be an excellent start for the H100. the SSD and optical look fine to me thumb.gif

Scythe AP-15s are the most recommended. I'm using Noctua (long lasting). I hate the color but who really gives a honey badger. It's inside the case anyways.

What GPU are you going to be using?

Honestly, I hate hate hate those Corsair water cooling system things but that is my personal opinion, It isn't backed by any substance. I just don't like them and I don't know why.

Overall it doesn't look bad. Any reason for 16GB of ram? Are you hoping to OC this chip? When I was running 16GB of ram in my sigrig, I couldn't get anything to be stable past 4.2ghz. I took out 8GB and bam it went all the way up to 4.8ghz, no problem.
