Distilled water + kill coil or PT Nuke is what I use. Stay away from the ready made mixes, I see no upside to them. There are ones that claim to be non-conductive which is total bullcrap, if it does leak it will be a lot messier to clean up.

as far as the tubing.. the stock tubing isn't bad...BUT my suggestion(what I did) buy different tubing since that kit comes w/ 1/2" barbs... buy 7/16 tubing... tighter fit(still just slides right on) plus the clamps and I can w/ 99% accuracy guarantee you no leaks (assuming you do it right in the first place =D) I can post some more pics of my setup to give you a bit of an idea.... thumb.gif for WC biggrin.gif

EDIT: DONT USE THE STOCK THERMAL PASTE!!! IT'S HORRIBLE!!! get some different stuff... some MX4... or some classic AS5... that is what I use and I saw a 3-5*C drop in temps using that versus the stock stuff that comes with the kit...

EDIT2: going to try to kick my OC up to 5 Ghz tonight thumb.gif

Honestly I've ran with some of the special crap before but it's just not worth the money for coolant, go Distiled and throw a kill coil in there.

Water cooling really isn't that hard, just gets addictive. I'm looking at doing something similar here soon but moving my video cards to an AMD dedicated server build reinstalling my OS on the folder. Something with no GUI so the CPU only runs folding at home with no cycles being taken for other stuff. This going to be a work in progress though. I have ubuntu server working on my VM with no gui and folding away but thinking of loading arch for less overhead. Depending on your experience with Linux I think you will like the results!

+1 on the distilled water and the kill a coil. I first started off with some non conductive crap but then I had to take apart my system to send back my mobo when it died and I noticed the coolant had gotten chunky after only one month of use. I switched to water and will never look back.

also +1 on using undersized tubing on the barbs for a nice tight fit.

I just made the (hopefully) last parts order for my new rig. i7 here I come!

As for all that kill coil / distilled water stuff, I've yet to be let down by PROPER coolant - and I run mixed metal loops in my cars and PCs.

Thanks for all the tips on the xspc kit! I think I'm going to order one tomorrow so hopefully it will be here by next Friday. On frozencpu, it is coming with a free kill coil, so I'll pick up the hosing and distilled water and let you know how it all comes together. I'm also hoping to place the order for the rest of the stuff I need to finish the build tomorrow. My goal now is to hopefully get the water loop set up on 02/17, let it run for a day or so to make sure it doesn't leak, then on 02/20 I'm off work, so I can build the system and hopefully have everything up and going by the end of the day on the 20th. If this all works out as planned (fingers crossed), the 2500k will be folding away as a dedicated folder and I'll have a 2600k to play with!!!

Thanks for all the tips, team, I'm planning on trying to doccument my build (pix, write up, etc), so I'll try to post a link to it once everything is done so you can see both rigs. I'm so pumped!!!! wheee.gif

EDIT:

I had a thought last night...how do you guys drain your systems when you need to? I was thinking about putting a drain plug in, but I wasn't sure if it would be necessary?

EDIT: So I have a question.... How would it work if I wanted to try -hugeadv? I have never done it on my 2600k and would like to see what kind of PPD I get...Is there a way to switch spots temporarily?

Here is a LINK to the guide I used to set up my 2500k to run hugadv. Really, if you already are set up to run bigadv all you need to do is the corehack portion of the guide. If you read all the way through the guide, it will also show you how to set the corehack to run at startup. If you have your folding client run at startup as well, you will need to put a 5 second delay on the client (to give the corehack time to kick in) and the guide shows you how to do this as well. Personally, I skipped all the stuff in the guide about Langouste as when I first set up my rig, Langouste caused me all kinds of problems and WUs not uploading for hours, it was a mess.

As for switching, you could ask Chuck if he would be interested in switch for a month or so, or if you'd like, we can find a temp (I guess, that would be up to Awesome)...

Aso for sharing the folder, try this (it worked for me):
Picked for Digi's guide that I linked before (there are pics in the guide) (Click to show)
One thing that I like to do at this point before I forget, is to enable the sharing of the folder the client is now in. This is required if you want to monitor the client via HFM running on another machine in your network.

Open from the top bar "PLACES, HOME FOLDER" we now see our home folder, with the newly made fah client folder.

Right click on the fah folder and select "Sharing Options" when you click "Share this folder" you will be informed the service needs to be installed. Install it now.

Once it's done you will be asked to restart this session. Go ahead and do that, and every time I do I get this error while Ubuntu is trying to shut down. I suspect it's part of the installer still running. "Log Out Anyway" has yet to fail me

Log back in, go back to your home folder, right click on fah and share the folder with whatever name you desire.

The only issue I have with you two switching is that we are a;ready started this month so I am not sure how the points transfer for categories. Also I would be worried about you running bigadv. If a 6901 failed, then chances are you will most definitely fail 6903/6904's. Also folding 6904's basically require the PC to be 100% dedicated. I wasn't even close to being able to complete the only 6904 I got on time and my comp wasn't a dedicated folder.

Which VM software you running? On my Tartarus Sigrig I'm running Virtualbox; free and allows me to use all twelve cores on the 980x without any issue. With that software all I have to do is tell Vbox that I want to share a folder between the host and guest systems. Then on the guest I install "virtualboxguestadditions". This sets up the VM with all the modules and auto mounts the share folder. After that you add you guest user account (the primary account on the vm) to the "vboxsf user group". Once this is done I can run F@H from that folder and monitor from HFM inside the host OS. This also allows me to make any changes to the scripts or client file without touching the VM.

As for team positions and points I would be fine with what ever the Team Captain agrees to. I do know that at some point in the next few weeks I plan to take my system down for a day so that I can pull my data off the RAID array and reload a GUI free linux distro to really see what I can get for points; I noticed a significant drop doing this on my VM so I figure on a dedicated folding rig the benefit would be even greater. Biggest part is that I have a 4TB RAID that I need to backup so I can load the data onto the new server once I get it built.
