Can't wait to see the pics!!
As for your linux set up, honestly, its not that hard. I have never used linux before I started folding (still don't completly understand it), but by following Digi's guide, it was a breeze (I like that his has pics for each step). What you can do is follow the guide exactly, then open your "Startup Programs" from the Personalize menu in Ubuntu and just uncheck Langouste and Corefix. This is a little extra work, but it keeps you from having to deviate from the guide and chance messing something up (this is what I have always done anyway).
Langouste basically allows the rig to download a new WU while it is uploading the completed WU. This is great if you have a REALLY slow internet connection, but it can have some issues. What I would see is that it would start uploading the completed WU, but when it finished downloading the new WU it would start that, wait until about 5% was complete and then restart the upload of the completed WU. The problem is, you lose bonus points during that 5+ hours Langouste is waiting around. I know not everyone saw this issue, but I saw it twice and decided to just remove it from the startup list.
