Hey, team, I'm still out of town and posting from my phone, which is kind of a pain, so I'm gonna keep this brief. Vidia, you are right about the rules and his PPD doesn't seem right for the Wildcard cat. I'm leary of accusing anyone of cheating, so that isn't my first thought (though it did come to mind as I reviewed the stats), but I wanted to post up here and let you know that I will look into it once I get back home and can do so from a proper computer. I love my iPhone, but some stuff doesn't work quite right on it.

Anyway, you'll see a more detailed post from me tonight. As for Chuck and cubed kubed (damn auto correct), I'm really sorry to hear about all the issues you guys are running into, I know hardware issues are the worst. Best of luck, guys, and I'll catch ya all later.

Well I've spent all day bouncing between homework and trying to tweak this rig. I have a bad feeling that my 2600k is done.

No matter what I do it doesn't seem to be running at 5.0Ghz anymore, honestly I can't get it to run at anything other than stock clocks. I have a boot USB that I can boot MiniXP with; I can run CPU-z and some other software. No matter what I do when ever I try to verify that I'm running any clock other than 3.4Ghz it just doesn't want to go.

To top that off it seems to be randomly unstable, at least from the aspect of getting into the BIOS to make changes then load the OS. The only conclusion that I can come to is that I have a severely damaged CPU on my hands. Maybe something broke the handles the unlocked multiplier, honestly I have no idea I have never seen anything like this.

I'm done messing with it for now. I have it setup as best as I can at the speeds I want. Will just have to see if it will perform. If it is truly done then I won't be able to fold on the 2600k. I do have my 980X that I can fold on through a VM to get hugeadv WU's that would be an option until I can get a new 2600k or 3770k.

Thanks for the comment you made, I don't think anyone would have said anything without it. At least we know what was going on then, hopefully it gets rectified soon, and all the stats get sorted out. Thanks again, I do appreciate it, I was waiting for Wonder to say something before I did, no one like a new guy who starts trouble you know???. thumb.gif

And to chucko, that is a real bummer man. If I were you I would test the chip on another motherboard and psu, just to rule anything and everything possible out, no need to throw away a perfectly good piece of hardware or replace it for no reason.

My guess for actual ppd from his card would be 11-12k ppd. thumb.gif

Thanks for posting that, I looked at thier thread earlier today (before that post) and I thought it was very odd that they hadn't mentioned it. Thanks for pointing that out.

Chuck, I'm really sorry to hear about the issues, I know HW issues are the worst because of the cost needed to replace dead parts. Anyway, if you want some time off the i7 slot, I can sub in my 2700k for the time being until you get yours sorted. Or if you would be willing to toss your 980X that would be awesome too. Just wanted to give you some options. I would like to get my new WCing parts installed, but that can wait if it is to help out the team.

Yeah, sorry it took me so long, being out of town, I could only check OCN on my phone and reading it on there isn't bad, but I hate trying to post from it. Anyhow, never be afraid to bring something like that up, or if you aren't comfortable with putting it out there for everyone to see, PM me, its my responsibility to take care of the teams concerns (when I can), and I try to be as open as possible, so please don't hesitate to bring like this to my attention.

But yeah, I had been noticing his points, thought it was a fluke of the stats (sometimes they get wonky and then rectify themselves), but when a Wildcard folder starts putting out more PPD and my 2500k, there is something wrong! Anyhow, I actually PMed zodac this morning before I got home and never heard anything. I'm glad to see that CTRLurself was able to figure out what it was. I figured it was something like that, especially right after the CC, things tend to get a little messed up. Hopefully, z can get the points sorted and CTRLurself doesn't loose all his points or get disqualified for the month or something, that would not be cool since he figured out what was wrong and stepped up and posted it. Honest mistake, he shouldn't be punished for it (at least not in my eyes).

Now for some personal stuff...

So I picked up the P8Z68-V Pro/Gen3 MB last week. I got home tonight, slapped the 3570k into it, and it won't boot. I've disconnected everything from the MB except the CPU, PSU and 1 stick of RAM (pulled out of my 2700k rig so that I knew it was good). Nothing. The thing sping the CPU fan about 1 revolution, lights on the MB flash and it goes off. Then it does this again. In an infinate loop. Until I turn off the main power button on the PSU.

Then I tried pulling the stick of memory (so no RAM) and it worked. It won't boot of course, but at least it turned on the monitor and gave me an error. I've tried running the RAM in each of the DIMM slots, no luck. Anyway, I bought it as an open box at Microcenter, so I'm going to take it back, but I don't have time to pull it out of the case tonight, so I'll have to pull it tomorrow night and take it back on Tuesday. Before I do that, does anyone have any suggestions?

Did you try the ram from your 2500k?

Here's where I am after I left my TC Rig last night according to my HFM P8101 TPF 41:34 PPD 7831.8 Credit 22607.

The deadline for this WU is 6/12/2012 @ 4:34 AM I downloaded 6/9/2012 @ 6:58 PM. Doing the math with my current TPF I would have finished within the deadline but because I had the system down so much this weekend trying to get it going again I will miss the deadline.

Current Theory:
I am running at the speed that I should be but because of the missed time I will be getting crap for credit. Once this WU finishes and I have downloaded a new one I will have a better idea of how my rig is running. I have to base the performance off of what HFM tracks because trying to benchmark through Linux is a pain in the ass. So before I call this CPU toast I'm going to wait and see what kind how it does on it's next WU. If all goes well I will atribute my issues over the weekend to me over analizing the situation. If all goes well then I will reset my OC and let it be.

Course of Action:
If after the next WU it is obviously not running correctly I will load up the VM on my main PC and bump up the OC on my 980x and start folding for the team on it until I can get a new proc for my TC Rig.

Wonder,

I will PM you after I know what is going on with my Rig so that you can let the powers that be know.

Edit:
Looking at 2700k to replace my 2600k if it doesn't perform. Anyone have any opinions on the 2700k? How well does it overclock? Would I still be eligable for the i7 category?

@chuck: Do you by any chance still have your corehack set to 16 cores? The 8101 is a a new BA-16 WU and a 2600K won't clear it in time, deadline is 2.4 days (for bonuses) and 41:34 amounts to 4.89 days. Try changing to 12 cores in the script and hopefully you'll get the BA-8/BA-12 only.

The 2700K is perfectly acceptable in either of the i7 cats, I don't believe it clocks any higher than the 2600K though, but it should be more mature so perhaps the avg 2700K is better than the avg 2600K.

I am under the impression that the 2700k are better binned 2600k's with their clocks bumped slightly due to the binning.

Sidebar: my i7 is approaching the 14 day mark...
