The 2700K is perfectly acceptable in either of the i7 cats, I don't believe it clocks any higher than the 2600K though, but it should be more mature so perhaps the avg 2700K is better than the avg 2600K.

I will definately check that out when I get home. Honestly I said to hell with it and put the 2700k on my Bestbuy card at 0% so I will have it this weekend. I will throw that in my TC rig and see how far I can push it. Hoping for aroudn 5.0 - 5.5 Ghz but will probably see around 5.2 Ghz. Going to play with the RAM timings as well. The 2600k may end up in my server so I can use the i3 in an untangle box. That and my server is running Windows 2008 Server so I can verify if it is dieing or not.

The deadline for this WU is 6/12/2012 @ 4:34 AM I downloaded 6/9/2012 @ 6:58 PM. Doing the math with my current TPF I would have finished within the deadline but because I had the system down so much this weekend trying to get it going again I will miss the deadline.
Current Theory:
I am running at the speed that I should be but because of the missed time I will be getting crap for credit. Once this WU finishes and I have downloaded a new one I will have a better idea of how my rig is running. I have to base the performance off of what HFM tracks because trying to benchmark through Linux is a pain in the ass. So before I call this CPU toast I'm going to wait and see what kind how it does on it's next WU. If all goes well I will atribute my issues over the weekend to me over analizing the situation. If all goes well then I will reset my OC and let it be.
Course of Action:
If after the next WU it is obviously not running correctly I will load up the VM on my main PC and bump up the OC on my 980x and start folding for the team on it until I can get a new proc for my TC Rig.
Wonder,
I will PM you after I know what is going on with my Rig so that you can let the powers that be know.
Edit:
Looking at 2700k to replace my 2600k if it doesn't perform. Anyone have any opinions on the 2700k? How well does it overclock? Would I still be eligable for the i7 category?

Yes, the 2700k is OK for TC (I temped mine for a while for the team back in April). Also, they are just binned 2600ks, so they are easier to OC than most 2600ks. I was able to get mine to 5.0GHz pretty quickly and with little effort. I am at 1.47v, and if I could get my temps down (currently the max temp on the hottest core is 75C) I would push it harder. That's why I ordered the new rad, I don't think the 120 the came with my XSPC kit was enough to cut it. If its anything like mine, it should be nice and easy to OC and should do well if you are willing to push the volts (which I am once I get it cooled properly).

Also, do check your core hack, I hadn't even thought about that, but arvidab is correct, that is a new 16 core WU, so that explains the horrible PPD!

Glad to hear you ordered it, I know mine has been an amazing chip. Can't wait to hear how it works out for you!

Well, I pulled a stick of ram from my 2700K. Its all the same Corsair RAM, so no matter which rig I pull from, its all the same stuff. I just pulled one to know that I was testing with a working stick.

And.. WHAT, Z IS LEAVING US!!??. Sure, she's a pain, but sad-smiley-002.gif .

First off, I am glad to see that you are getting everything worked out chucko, but at the same time I know its got to be rough (if not for you...for your pockets) to drop all that dough on a new chip. If you don't mind, how much did Bestbuy charge you for it? I know the one in my neck of the woods has the brass to ask $349.99 for a new one. I hope you didn't pay that much! At any rate, it's never a bad thing to have another fully unlocked CPU in your possession, now put that thing to work!

You are correct sir. The cream of the crop 2600ks are given the prestige honor of being called a 2700k, with a small clock boost of course. Besides the clock rates, the specs are identical for both of them, meaning they are exactly the same. Isn't Intel (and a number of other companies for that matter) so damn scandalous.

Anyhow, never be afraid to bring something like that up, or if you aren't comfortable with putting it out there for everyone to see, PM me, its my responsibility to take care of the teams concerns (when I can), and I try to be as open as possible, so please don't hesitate to bring like this to my attention.
But yeah, I had been noticing his points, thought it was a fluke of the stats (sometimes they get wonky and then rectify themselves), but when a Wildcard folder starts putting out more PPD and my 2500k, there is something wrong! Anyhow, I actually PMed zodac this morning before I got home and never heard anything. I'm glad to see that CTRLurself was able to figure out what it was. I figured it was something like that, especially right after the CC, things tend to get a little messed up. Hopefully, z can get the points sorted and CTRLurself doesn't loose all his points or get disqualified for the month or something, that would not be cool since he figured out what was wrong and stepped up and posted it. Honest mistake, he shouldn't be punished for it (at least not in my eyes).
Now for some personal stuff...
So I picked up the P8Z68-V Pro/Gen3 MB last week. I got home tonight, slapped the 3570k into it, and it won't boot. I've disconnected everything from the MB except the CPU, PSU and 1 stick of RAM (pulled out of my 2700k rig so that I knew it was good). Nothing. The thing sping the CPU fan about 1 revolution, lights on the MB flash and it goes off. Then it does this again. In an infinate loop. Until I turn off the main power button on the PSU.
Then I tried pulling the stick of memory (so no RAM) and it worked. It won't boot of course, but at least it turned on the monitor and gave me an error. I've tried running the RAM in each of the DIMM slots, no luck. Anyway, I bought it as an open box at Microcenter, so I'm going to take it back, but I don't have time to pull it out of the case tonight, so I'll have to pull it tomorrow night and take it back on Tuesday. Before I do that, does anyone have any suggestions?

No worries Wonder, I had a felling you were probably getting in late or something. I sometimes check OCN from my Blackberry, it most likely handles the website a tad better than an iphone (one because its not an apple tongue.gif, and two because its not an apple tongue.giftongue.gif). I'm sorry I just had to throw that in there, but I know what your saying, its quite frustrating to type on a smart phone sometimes, touch screen or not. Regarding the "new guy staring trouble" comment I made...I just don't want to step on anyone's toes, you know what they say, "keep your friends close and your enemy's closer." To be honest tho, I'm just happy to be able to compete with all of you, let alone actually make a difference or come in 1st in my cat. Which btw I am holding 1st (legitimately) again...

CTRLurself is really in 7th place if the stat page is at all accurate, meaning I have over a 14,500 point lead over blazed_1, who is the actual current 2nd place holder. That makes me smile a bit, in this category I have a feeling that's a pretty nice lead. When WUs are worth between low 2000s and high 5000s for points, that puts me at least 3 WUs ahead of the competition! I am glad that CTRLurself eventually said something tho, I was starting to think suspiciously on the count of no one even mentioning it in their teams thread, until hertz9753 posted there that is. Good luck with the riging also...I had just recently did a Micro ATX build for a friend / client with an ASUS P8P67-M PRO B3, its a really nice board. I have had many Asus boards over the years and put just as many (if not more) into computer systems for customers. I hope you get it all figured out without much trouble, troubleshooting can be a pain in the @$$.

Good luck team, seems things are starting to look a little brighter for us!

That is more like it!! Glad to see the stats got sorted! Also, Vidia, I knew when the discussions were going on about changing up the Wildcard slot that I wanted you on the team, I just had to wait for a decision. I knew a GTX460 would be a dominator in this slot and after seeing the work you've put into yours to make it better, I knew you would do well, both for the team and for yourself in your category. I'm glad to see you are enjoying the TC, I was hoping you would get into it and it really seems like you have. You've been an awesome addition to the team and I hope you keep up the enthusiasm, its nice to have that here.

Sorry, I attended a funeral this morning for one of my uncles and I'm feeling a bit sappy.

Anyhow, team, keep up the good work. Its been a rough month, but we'll make it though, get things sorted and come back swinging next month! I know its only the 11th, and we have time to make up some ground, but I think we need to try to get stuff sorted and try to really make a push for 1st next month. But for now, lets keep pushing and see what we can do with the next 19 days, I have faith that we can still finish strong (especially once Chuck gets the 2700k up and rolling). I think you'll like that chip, Chuck, they seem to OC well.

I did the kraken install and it has cut about 8 seconds off my TPF on a 6098/99, which isn't much, but it is netting me a little less than 1k ppd extra. Not much, but it is adding about 500 points per WU (thanks to the little bit of added bonus points), which is nice as I'm now leading the Cat-3 by just 196 points, so that 500 points on the last WU definately helped!! biggrin.gif

Fixed my corehack script and cleared out my FAH folder so it would down load a BA8 or BA12. Folding a 6903 and my PPD seems to be around 48 min which is good, but not what I was doing before. So maybe I over reacted and the chip isn't trash. However I have been running it on the bitter edge of sane for awhile now.

I will still get the 2700k put in my rig and get it going. Should produce similar or higher clocks at a lower vCore so longevity will be a lot better.

The 2600k at it's stock clock with turbo boost on my liquid cooler server should be a better performer than the i3 that's in it now.

Then I can start working on my untangle box to replace my router for NAT functions.

So long story short, CPU = Good, $300 out of my pocket. I may have paid more but was able get it quickly so I guess I won't complain too much, sometimes you have to pay to play I guess.

Also amazed that I'm pulling second in the nVidia category and beating out a 570. Maybe these old 470's have some life left after all. After this month I may have to see if I can push the clocks some more and get around 20k PPD out of them.

Current Clocks on the 470's
vCore: 1.150v
Core Clock: 850 Mhz
Shader Clock: 1700 Mhz
Memory Clock: 1900 Mhz

Temps are @ 55°c on the card doing the folding!

Good news, everyone! My i7 has now passed the two week mark as of two hours ago.

And yeah, bummer about zodac "leaving" us. He seems pretty cool (I still maintain that there are no women on the internet until proven otherwise).

All good news!!! Awesome to hear! 48 minutes on a 6903 is nothing to sneeze at either, so for now I say let it run and lets try to play some catch up! Can't wait till you can have a go at the 2700k though, I'm eager to see what you can do with it. Anyway, glad the 2600k is still running for you!

Also, as for the 470, I think it's awesome that you are in 2nd! Sure the gap between you and first is almost 90k, but hey, that just means that jesusboots is kicking the snot out of everyone (no pun intended). As for the other 570s, it makes me wonder what's up with them? I just got my 570 last week, have it running at 825MHz and it is currently showing 23,243 PPD on a 8019 WU. Most PPD I've seen out of it yet, kinda has me excited! Anyway, hope you continue the strong showing in the nVidia slot and hope to see you pick up some steam in the i7! Keep us posted.

And yeah, bummer about zodac "leaving" us. He seems pretty cool (I still maintain that there are no women on the internet until proven otherwise).

Yeah, I'm pretty sad to see z step down, if it wasn't for her, I would be wasting my money on something that wasn't so worthy as folding (would probably have bought a motorcycle by now, but 3 rigs in the last 2 years has killed the bank account). At least she got me started on a good cause.
