I also charge extra fees for different situations (like if the comp has to come home with me), theirs usually a "storage fee charge", or if I have to outsource to someone else (rare but it happens). Hey as soon as I plug your comp in at my home, up goes my electric bill. Emergency house calls are often and additional $100 and If you want me to just "take a look" its $45. Not many people understand how expensive it is to try and run your own custom computer build / repair company. You guys here on OCN are the only ones that get it. My time isn't free, nor is my knowledge. Except maybe here on this forum!

Of course I used the term friend very loosely in my last post _zero, he is more like a friend of the family, my girlfriends family. I let my girl handle the money situation, I felt weird about asking them on the count of the cloud of awkwardness that was lingering the entire day, (long story).
Hey, I get that, you are doing it as a business, I'm not. I just charge people I don't like because I don't want them to just call me all the time. For my friends and family (that I do like) I never charge. I'm just doing it as a favor, which has its own form of payment !

But yeah, if I was trying to have a business of doing it, I'd charge like you.
Basically, what I've found, my family that I don't like (my mom is the second youngest of 11 kids, so there are over 200 people in my family, just on her side, so there are a few I don't like) I charge, for those I do like, I do it for free. This keeps the ones I don't like from calling me all the time and those I do like, it gives me a change to hang out with them while I work on their stuff. And usually I'll get a good meal or drink out of it, so I'm happy.
Honestly, my most frequent
customer is my wife's grandmother! God love her, she's the sweetest woman ever, but a 77 year old woman who uses a computer every day is a scary thing! She's actually pretty handy with one (she's made it a point to learn) but she's funny when she calls me. Anyway, one day I'll figure out how to set up a remote desktop and then I can just fix things from home, but until then, I'll go over, work on her system and she always makes me a really great meal and she keeps the beer I like (Yuengling Premium) in her fridge just for me, so it's all good!
