That downtime might not exist if he learned from me and has a backup folding card & rig for the tweaking times (which apparently I'll be getting into for next month's TC - time to see just how far I can get things to go @ 100% fan speed...)

Krusher - what are you using for stability testing? Just folding, or something tougher? I use metro2033 as my stability test - it seems to hang easily if anything is slightly off.

I usually use GPUTool actually. Then bench and BF3 and Skyrim which are the only games I'm playing with atm.

But this past week I haven't had much time because I'm working on a broken down car, working overtime at work, taking care of 2 kids, and making my first bench. So I've just been bumping it up by 5 mhz at a time and let it fold. I've reach the point where 970mhz = no fail @ 1.2v for several days and 975mhz = fail on the 1st WU. The 6 failed units are from trying 975 at 1.21, 1.22, 1.23, 1.24, at 1.25 volts and it climbs to above 60 degrees. I'm under the theory that it's like my 6850 where it would fail if it gets above just 55 degrees. So now I've decided to sit at 1.21v and 970mhz @ 51-54 degrees until I get it under water.

Learned from you?

I currently run my 970 for the I7 cat for MISFITS...but I've also got a 980X I can sub in when needed. Plus a 920, a GTX580, a 5870, and a 9800GX2 that I've kept specifically selected so I can sub in for about any of my team folders as needed.

Sux to be a Team Captain (expensive too)...wink.gifbiggrin.gif

F@H Client v7
Code:
client-type = bigadv
max-packet-size = big
CPUs = 8 (not the original -1)

I was looking for elchucko's secret to leading the i7 category when I spotted his response here.

My guess is it has to do with 5.0 GHz, Native Ubuntu and FAHClient v7.
I decided to get some experience installing v7 using this Linux Install Guide.

Last night I tried v7 with Ubuntu 12.04 but couldn't get it to work.

Today I installed Ubuntu 11.10 along with FAHClient and FAHControl and this time I noticed both had unresolved dependencies.
I used Synaptic package manager and fixed that problem.
Now I have a Linux v7 test system running using the above settings.
Even though I'm using the above settings it seems to like 8004 WUs.

The only problem I have is I can't get Samba to install on 11.10 because of unresolved dependencies that I can't figured out.

I'd like to use Ubuntu 12.04 but is your "Hacked Kernel" needed to run v7?
If so, could you point me to the hacking instructions to accomplishing it?

Okay I tried to make sure there are no errors this time. I nested the command lines so if you copy paste this line in a new terminal you're ready to go tongue.gif
Make sure you have your passkey, username and team number ready so you can fill in correctly wink.gif
You'll be running v7 with:
-configonly
-bigadv
-big units
-smp 8
Just change the cpus=x to x the number of cores in the command line.
And max-packet-size=x to small or normal to change smaller units (doesn't really change anything since every setting nets you tiny a4 units)
Code:
mkdir fahv7; cd fahv7; wget --no-check-certificate https://fah-web.stanford.edu/file-releases/beta/release/fahclient/ubuntu-10.10-64bit/v7.1/fahclient_7.1.52-64bit-release.tar.bz2; tar -jxvf *.tar.bz2; rm *.tar*; mv fahclient_7.1.52-64bit-release v7; cd v7; ./FAHClient --configure; ./FAHClient --cpus=8 --client-type=bigadv --max-packet-size=big
Assuming 8 core CPU
This should work.

try version fahclient_7.1.38 and fahcontrol_7_1.38

I think version 7.1.52 and 7.1.48 the latest releases have a problem with the Python versions in Ubuntu 12.04. I can run all versions on Ubuntu 10.10 through the terminal though (no fahcontrol).

See above for the command line to run v7.1.52 in terminal.

Below for v7.1.38 wink.gif
Code:
mkdir fahv7; cd fahv7; wget --no-check-certificate https://fah-web.stanford.edu/file-releases/beta/release/fahclient/ubuntu-10.10-64bit/v7.1/FAHClient-7.1.38-Ubuntu-10.10-64bit-release.tar.bz2; tar -jxvf *.tar.bz2; rm *.tar*; mv FAHClient-7.1.38-Ubuntu-10.10-64bit-release v7; cd v7; ./FAHClient --configure; ./FAHClient --cpus=8 --client-type=bigadv --max-packet-size=big

You need stand in line and wait your turn...lol tongue.gif

And yes it's normal to get a lot of 8004 if not 8049.

I have been pulling my fair share of those but still posting around 40k when I pull them.
