Awesome, thx u3b3r! cheers.gif I don't see anything in the TC manual about temps so I assume we just give our passkey info to WM, axipher & anubis w/the switchover date. I think I'll need to pull the plug by Thursday.

I'll double check with the powers that be on this and make sure the temp is cool. For now, assume it is. Go ahead and start a PM between yourself, u3b3r and me so we can work out the details. Also, thanks for the heads up on this, SLE.

Chuck...I would think that even though you may not be able to push the 2700k as massively as you would have liked, 5.2GHz could be pretty dominating! Keep us posted on your progress. Good luck, sir!

I think my lapped 2600k was a better overclocker so I'm going to try it under phase tonight. I have also decided that I'm going to fabricate my own Single State cooler. I have a guy I know that does refrigeration and is very interested in helping out. I'm going to get the cryo-Z going and folding while I start getting the tools and parts together for my new project. This is going to take me a while because of the tools and parts needed but once it's done I will have a base for any future folding rigs that is very capable.

My goal is a small footprint custom Phase Unit with a low profile PC on top that is dedicated to folding. I'm hoping I get it to run -30°c @ 300 - 400 watts. This should be fun and interesting at the same time. If nothing else I should learn a lot.

Right on, sir, all of that sounds awesome! That would be a cool project, you should do a buld log on it so we can all see how it goes and learn with you! Good luck!!

Chucko, if you're going to try a truly custom phase unit, might I suggest using an inverter controlled scroll compressor? They're both quieter (read: nearly inaudible) than piston compressors and more efficient.

Maybe have someone hack up a tiny mitsu mini-split and charge it with something that gets really cold...

Also I'm wondering if indigo Xtreme would be optimal for phase - AFAIK it's basically an ultra low temp solder, and assuming it doesn't crack (i.e. separate) when dropping to sub-zero temps, it would be just as amazing cold as it is hot.

I will have to check one of those out. Trying to find compressors and condensors online is being a real pain in the butt.

I was looking at that for a car application - they've got all kinds of cool stuff, and most of it is speed controllable via voltage (3-pin header controlled compressor, anyone?).

you may want to look that over as well - your choice of refrigerant makes a HUGE difference with respect to the achievable temps (heat rejection notwithstanding).

HFC-134a seems like a reasonable refrigerant to try out first.

http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/cooling/420-vapochill-premium-edition-preview/

also, keep in mind that if you intend to OPERATE at -30C, (not idle @ 30C), you will need to make sure your math reflects that, and size the condenser and compressor accordingly. I would suggest a water-cooled condenser, and a traditional "loop" to cool the refrigerant. that will give you much more flexibility in terms of noise and radiator size / placement (and the possibility to do a remote rad / a few 3x3 120mm panels / radboxes).

This is what I did at work today. Trying to find a Scroll Compressor that works on 115v is about impossible. I think between what I found above I should be able to build a solid rig and will only have to buy the tubing and evap new.

I think most of those tall compressors are scroll. anyways did you check out the DC controllable ones I linked? being able to adjust the speed of the compressor to match the load gives you a lot of flexibility.

if you want an R12 substitute, check out duracool - it's quite literally a propane/butane mix that acts like R12, and IIRC it is mineral oil friendly.

if you want an R12 substitute, check out duracool - it's quite literally a propane/butane mix that acts like R12, and IIRC it is mineral oil friendly.

Those are just what I found I think after talking to my HVAC friend I think that DC will be the way to go. I'm going to take a look at what you linked now. DC will be a lot more efficient and definately scroll.
