Is this a mobo problem

Thread Starter
I have 2 sticks of ram, I've run memtest86 on both of them one at a time (slot1). They both are fine. But when I try to run them in dual channel mode, I get loads of errors in memtest and sometimes windows fails to load. Why is this?

Maybe that RAM just doesn't like running dual channel with that mobo. Can you try a different pair of RAM sticks in your mobo in dual channel.

That way you will know if its the mobo that won't work with dual channel or if that particular make/model or RAM doesn't work in dual channel with that board.

Also, try running those sticks in dual channel on a different mobo.

OK, I seem to have fixed the problem. I fixed it by setting the ram in dual channel mode (nothing to it, just putting it in the right slots), but the difference was I manually set the timings myself in the BIOS. Can anyone explain why I would get a hell of alot of errors in memtest, if I dont set the timmings manually.
I've been out for about 5 hours and memtest has also been running for that long, now their are 0 erros and 6 passes

It could just be a small compatibility issue. Some very weird things can happen with RAM and mobos when they are not 100% compatible.

timings are weird, if you dont do them right,
its like putting a circle in a square hole, it fits, but it can move, and cause problems

Auto config is just that and should use the SPD to configure the RAM but you are not the first in here to have to set the timings manually regardless of the brand of RAM!
