ICH5R or Promise for Raid?

Thread Starter
I have the Asus P4P800-E Deluxe Mobo and it has two raid controllers and I was wondering which one to use. I think the promise is for PATA and the ICH5R is for SATA but I am not positive at this point. I was also wondering if I use the Intel Raid with the ICH5R do I still have to load drivers on a floppy to get everything to work. The manual for the mobo says it has a pre OS interface but I have no idea what that means. Getting this working is a little confusing but I think with a little help from you guys I can get my RAID0 setup running.

I can't help you on all points, since I don't know your MO-BO in details. You need someone with experience on that board, or one very much like it. But since none has replied yet, I will give it a try.

The Pre OS interface.
I think they might mean the Raid Bios, which should show up after POST, and let you configure the raid array. (If you have enabled Raid). Your manual will tell you what button(s) to hit to enter it.

Which controller you should use.
If I understand you correctly, you are asking if you should use ATA or SATA disc's. And that fully depends on if you already have disk(s). or you are looking to buy. And on how many and what kind of ports/controllers you have on that Mobo.

So in order to advise you better, you need to give me some more info.
